Trying to convince a bass Facebook group to do Talk Bass instead.

I've been a Top Contributor member of a Facebook group, UBass Freaks, but the Facebook interface and functions are so cumbersome, I just don't want to do it anymore. I've told them that Talk Bass is a real forum with far more members, is much easier to navigate and that I prefer to use it.

My plan is to visit the group and if there are any questions that I can answer, I'll post that I answer here. I kind of doubt that it will influence any of them to move, it can be very difficult for people to change when they're used to doing something, even if there's a better way.

a lot of people just love facebook, and so they miss out on a lot of useful information and cameraderie. i, too, find facebook cumbersome and also quite intrusive.

Yeah- a lot of people just prefer to stay in the place they're most comfortable with even if it's not the most informative.

Facebook is the deevil. Although i do miss the way Luthiers display their wares there.
The algorithm angers me. Haven't logged in for almost 4 years.
Forums ban politics for reasons. I never really wanted to know what strange thoughts my sister has regarding her college professor Coolaid life, but Zuckerberg was happy to serve up all kinds of awful. "Facebook...where friendships go to die, and family becomes alienated...".

I've joined and quit a few bass player groups on FB.
I don't post as much here anymore but i do still visit a lot. There are definitely a few members here that offer great info or just say the right thing at the right time to give me a good laugh or answer a question that I haven't been able to form to ask.

Honestly I understand why people stick to certain social media outlets like Facebook, Instagram, Reddit etc. A lot of Facebook users I met in all hobbies of the world I notice tend to be from other countries, a lot from Indonesia, South East Asia especially and many I asked just seem to be more comfy on Facebook and Facebook offers a lot at your fingertips. Same can be said with Reddit even though I hate most subreddits except for R/bass and R/flyfishing lol.

Best of luck, but I think a lot of people enjoy having a single platform to connect to many things these days.

Yuppers...I just don't get what people see in FB any longer. It's transmogrified from being a "catch up with old friends" platform when it first started out to becoming a killing field for relationships...friends and families alike. I was on soon after it started and within months, I knew where it was going and bailed. I have never seen a bigger bunch of entitled and narcissistic people in my life as what's on FB.

Throw links to TB posts at them as answers to their questions. Once they've been here, they'll probably come back…

For the record, I strongly dislike the way FB operates and never had an account them. That said, it does offer a few advantages such as private or "invitation only" groups which you won't find on TB. Or at least not any that will be accessible from the regular membership pages.

Also, if your FB group has been running for some time and contains content your group members wish to retain, you usually won't be able to migrate it over to another platform easily if at all.

I left FB twice!
Once was an issue in my marriage which shall remain private.
Then 8 years later my favorite cousin asked me to get back on "so we could stay in touch".
But we couldn't! Zucks algorithm keeps love at bay and encourages hatred and animosity.
We'd all be better off with flip phones and actual social interaction.

I started out asking Pedal & Stringray Specials questions on FB but never got near the insight and knowledgeable responses I've gotten on TB. Now I only use FB to look at pictures of peoples gear and boards.

Unfortunately, that happens here too and theres folks i know that quit coming to TB for that reason....I have noticed that, since about 2018 or so, TB has really chilled out into a nice groove and I personally like coming here nowadays more than I did back then. Heck, I'm even a Supporting Member now lol
