Trying to get tubular....again....

An Ampeg SVT and 8x10 not having enough power is the craziest thing I have read on here. I have played arenas with it and still didn’t even come close to maxing it out.

In 2018 you don’t need loud volume. Good tone and rely on your in ears (or monitors).

What about a Mesa M9 Carbine. Hybrid amp with solid-state electrons. Pretty much a suitcase nuke. I have the 600w version. It’s my second m9. More head room, and punch than you can shake a stick at.

Well I think I clarified later somewhere but the SVT I owned just had something wrong with it. It was anemic and didn’t perform right....then died. So it didn’t make me dislike them, but just kind of turned me off to them. I also played guitar on a band for a while with a bass player who used a 76 SVT on an 810, which CRUSHED, and a brand new SVTCL on an 810 which, in comparison, sounded really weak. That just turned me off to new SVTs. And I really want to buy a brand new amp. Also some of us snowflakes just HAVE to be different. Hahahaa

I don't use JJs in any of my amps, too many early failures and DOA tubes for me. Maybe just back luck, and some of it can be attributed to the vendors, but I've not had as many consistent issues with other brands. That said I got a quad of new sensor gold lion KT88s to try in my science mother and they were noisy as hell. Work fine in amps with lower plate voltages, but not happy in the science. Stuck with the ruby branded valve art tubes which have been great. In my SVT I've still got winged C 6550s but I've got a sextet of tung sol reissues waiting to test out in there. Just haven't used that amp since I got the science.

I have gone full tubular lol

Verellen 400 watt 2 channel. Channel 1 is a meatsmoke. Channel 2 is a HiWatt dr405 .

A Mesa strategy ,

Seigmund Big Boy 330. Which is the loudest cleanest tube amp I have ever heard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Super heavy buy worth it!!!!!

I can say this . The seigmund big boy 330 is louder and cleaner than the Mesa strategy . The strategy is supposed to be 435 watts or something but the Siegmund is louder and cleaner wwwwwwaaaaaayyyyyyyyy longer than the strategy.

I love my strategy too, don't get me wrong but the Siegmund is cleaner and flatter and louder. I asked Chris Seigmund to build me the loudest cleanest tube amp he could and he did . With a barefaced 8 10 and or the Barefaced bb2 it is louder and cleaner than any other amp I've ever seen, heard, or played . It wasn't cheap but Chris was amazing to work with!!!!!

I know you want a new amp, but if you want a wrecking ball you really should consider a previously loved Titan. Not super deep, but the notes are thick and carry incredible weight and heft. I have at least one amp that makes more power, but nothing rattles the walls and shakes my guts like the Titan. Totally over the top!

@COFFINMAGIC Personally if I was looking for high headroom valve amps, I'd be looking at Hi-Tone. They build Hiwatt designs pretty much as close as you can get to an original, and are the only company in the Hiwatt market currently associated with the Reever family (Glynn Reeves, son of Hiwatt founder Dave Reeves). Now, this does mean that the amps are spec'd as All Purpose amps, just like the originals, but that didn't stop Entwistle, Wetton, Gelnn Hughes and so on and so forth from using them at brutally loud levels for bass. Here's there DR201: HT200 DR - Hi-tone Amplification I've also inquired about having a 200w slave head made, and they're game. Very nice folks, and worth a look if searching the big amp arena.

Thanks for the suggestion! Just read up on it. Looks killer. Obviously a similar amp to the Reeves 225. Only edge I’d give the Reeves, besides being ‘voiced for bass’(whatever subjective difference that would make)is that Reeves can run at 2ohms which is something I’m looking for.
