It all depends on what "grabs" you. Acoustic makes (made) great amps that are solid state and famous for their overdrive tone. Same with Sunn. So it just depends

I was not aware that Markbass made an all tube amp?
Hey everyone. I've been wondering, are tube amps really worth it if you aren't going to use them for distortion? Can you get the same warm sound with a solid state? Obviously it would depend on the amp and cab, but for this, let's just say a Markbass tube amp.
Let's Discuss.

LOL! That's what keeps me away from tubes![]()
I guess they did. Haven’t seen one in the wild, yet...

No, you cannot get tube compression without tubes. Period. But, you can get great sound without tubes. It completely depends on what you want. If you want solid, clean, defined sound, with a strong attack, go solid. If you're looking for a rounded, warm, harmonically rich tone, with an absolutely great distorted option, go tube. To me, solid = definition. Tube = big. My suggestion is to play through two amps from the same company on the same stack, and make a decision on that. That way nothing is biased in any way. Same bass, same company, solid or tube.Hey everyone. I've been wondering, are tube amps really worth it if you aren't going to use them for distortion? You DO have options for ampless stages and true tube amp sound. If I played on stages where I used an amp as my monitor, yes, I would probably have a tube amp. But I don't - I play on stages where we're ampless. I obsess about how to get the best tone possible into an xlr cable, so the person running the PA has the best chance he or she can to make the band sound great. So far that's a good bass and a pedal....or 4. so far they're all solid state.
