+1 on the pignose b100vh, i've got one and absolutely love it.

Had the combo version of the pignose, very nice amp. A silverface bassman could fit the bill nicely while being under budget. I use a sansamp RBI with a Carvin TS100 and like how it sounds. Got both for around $400.

Fender Bassman 100's typically go for $500+/-$100

Ah man....i live on the wrong side of the pond! Can't get a V4B or Bassman 100 at anything like this price this side of the atlantic. Only 100W (ish) amps i've seen less than £1000 (GB) are the Ashdown 100W tube head and the Traynor YBA200 (not 100W i know but i've heard they break up with a nice OD real easy). At least Ashdown are a bit cheaper this side
