a used thunderfunk woild serve you well

a new carvin bx500 might work well for you as well; and their pricepoint is Friendly.
they also have a 10 day approval period, i believe.

You could go for a hybrid amp, but your cost will start increasing. SS and this pedal should do the trick.

SS amps can sound great, but they don't really sound like a tube amp. That's the real deal.

Did you even read the thread? The point of it, as far as I understood it, was to help the OP find something which approximated a tube amp without its being a tube amp. And on a budget.

Ugh. No point in antagonizing TBers trying to help a fellow TBer. :rollno:

well when people want a block of tofu that tastes like a ribeye, i recommend the vt, and when people want a ss amp that sounds like an svt, i recommend the vt and a couple of not-quite-but-scary-close products like the LMII. of course none of them equal the feeling you get playing an svt, but the war's over and the tones themselves can be duplicated now. 2 years ago i'd have laughed at the thought of it, just as you do now, but i can't anymore.

forget tube not tube.

listen to a lot of amps till you find the one you like

most of the tubeness of all tube amps comes from the tube power section, less so from the tube sin the preamps. many amps with a tube in the preamp really just add it to say they have it and it doesn't seem to do much for the tone (IMHO). that said, the alembi F2B and F1X have tons of tube magic, but even that is just preamp wise.

I tried the VT and I just couldn't get along with it somehow. I guess I could have tried harder or longer but my BJFE Blueberry gets me a tubey tone that I really like. It costs more than the VT and doesn't quite do clean but it works for me.

Oh, and those DHA VT-1 Standard EQ things are real nice too.

Edens WT550 goes for around 600 and up used, it has a warm tubey sound to it, and the Ashdowns mentioned above are killer as well. Tubes to me offer a more "colorful" tone and some natural compression due to the functionality of the tube itself. There are a sea of hybrids that dont sound solid state-like out there, my only advice really is try as many out as you can, if you live where that is possible. All the above advice is great as well.

A used Markbass LMII might be the ticket. IMHO, Markbass amps are the most tube-like sounding SS amps on the market. Get one of those plus a VT pedal and you`ll be 95% there - with the last 5% difference being made only if you had an actual tube amp ;)

Thats one of the things I LIKE a lot re the VTBASS pedal- it's ability to give U a lotta that "tube amp" (tube pwr section maybe) sound, while STAYING CLEAN!!! Sure it'll dirty up moving the DRIVE control, but turn that DRIVE control off or down & U STILL get a great SVT/B15 type sound sweet & clean.

To the OP- My recommendations from earlier too- virtually ANY solid state amp with this pedal- which AFAIK U can buy for about $149- & U can get a clean/brite/dirty/clanking/thick/thin/... well U catch....:rolleyes:
