Tube Practice Amp ?

It's all tube. 30w is about as low as I'd go if you want to be heard, even at a coffee shop gig.

If you want to spend less, get one of the 5w guitar heads. TBers have gotten good sounds from the Valve Junior, that's only $130. You'll need a great cab to push any volume with that though.

A B15 is always a good choice, at least a whole lot of pro studios and players think they are.
They can be a little pricey, but you should always be able to a least get what you paid out of it, most likely even more a few years down the road if you need to sell.

Google "Bearpaw" Amplifiers.
They made me a 25 watt, class A tube bass head.
Got a single 12" speaker to go with it. (4 ohms)
Great for practice, and recording.
They will do any wattage between 5-50 you want.

b15 is not that heavy, and I'm not sure why that should be important is it's for home practice. It's also portable due to the flip top feature. If you consider it to be too large there is a b12 version. These are really by far the best all tube combo amp for bass.

Pictured is one option:
a 1965ish B15N head mated to a brand spanking new vintage Blue B12 cabinet (a fliptop of course) with a 12" weber speaker...tone kills!!!

Option 2 would be to get yourself on "Old School" bass amp

They make a 20 watt single tube class A amp, and a more conventional push/pull setup with 2 tubes and 75 watts of power.
I am personally extremely interested in the Model 1 (20 watt class A) amp as a backup to my fliptop...I think that model 1 might just sound INSANE thru my wizzy 10!

Get a 50w Fender bassman head, blackfaces are still $650-ish and silverfaces are mostly $450 ish. None of those are going to go down in value anytime soon. Then get a modern lightweight single 12" cabinet, or a low priced 2x10.

ya, fender bassmans are cool. i'm a b-15 guy but i do like fender amps on bass since i figured out how to make them work. but there isn't a whole lot suitable for bass at low wattages and light weights because the transformers aren't big enough.
