Tube Sound Using Pedal w/ PJB Gear

I love my PJB cabs and amps, but I'm looking to add some tube warmth to my tone. I am hoping to find something small to add to my pedal chain that can give me that warmth. Was looking at the Sushi Box More pedal? Any thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Anything Sushibox will add some tube to the signal. The More would work for overall flavor; a Finally would work if you need a good DI too; an Underground Accelerator would be good if you want an additional preamp that could add a touch of drive if desired.

I have the "More", it works really well for adding some tube warmth running in front of my Mesa D-800+ which of course has no tube. And turning up the gain on the D-800+ just amplifies what's coming into it, adding more to the tone of my More.

I also have the Mesa Bass 800D, which of course has a tube preamp. So when I run the tube gain on it on higher settings, the More doesn't really do anything. But if I run it on lower gain settings for a cleaner, leaner tone, and then kick on the More, of course you can hear the warmth it adds but it's a different warmth from what the 800D's tube pre puts out on higher settings. It's like having two different tube amps at my fingertips.

If you need a DI as well, then you'll need more than just the More. But if you don't need a DI, don't want to deal with another set of tone controls and want to keep it simple, the More is the way to go.

I run a Sushi Box "Single Slice" one tube compressor now too, got it earlier this month. Haven't had the chance to try it out with the More in front of my D-800+, and I haven't been using my board much at all with the 800D. But I did run the More and Single Slice for about two hours with the gain settings on my 800D set low so the tube pedals could do the tube work. Again, different tone and feel from the 800D's tube pre, but still a nice tube feel and tone going on.

I played PJB cabs for a few years with a Noble tube preamp in front. It added some warmth, but honestly, the PJB cabs were pretty sterile and did not warm up like other cabs I've owned like Barefaced and RevSound. It's why I sold the PJB gear. Here is what I had:

I don't have any experience with the Noble, but running my PJB cabinets with a Demeter combo amp definitely gets the warm tubey sound. I have a few PJB combo amps though, and hoping to find a pedal solution that will get me the same warmth as the Demeter.

Well good luck. Just reporting my experience after gigging that gear for several years. Maybe we have a different definition of "warm, tubey" sound? PJB is excellent, well constructed gear; it just wasn't quite what I was hoping for from a sonic experience.

P.S. I originally bought it for amplifying double bass, and it was a fantastic kit for that purpose. Electric bass, not so much.

for some time I've digged an subtle overdrive in my PJB amps. it didn't have a tube inside, but was old-schoolish enough for me. mine was a Bass Soul Food.

IME, Phil Jones gear take external preamps pretty well, being neutral enough to faithfully reproduce what they do. if you're looking for some vintage coloration on the speaker side, well, you won't get that and need the pre or other pedals to mimic it.

Smallest would be the "always on" Barbershop Modele B. Sounds like a tube pre pushing a tube amp to the rails,
