Joe, I had an old Kustom 200 head and it was almost unuseable tonally. It benched clean to 38 watts and after that sounded like a landing DC-10. While it looked cool, it wasn't clean enough loud enough for time on the road.

Thanks so much to you and passinwind. You just saved me $300. This why TB is so great. Do you have as good a feeling about Sunn as the guys in the Sunn thread?

I used to be a Sunn warranty repair guy. Even though I'm not really a tube-for-bass guy (for me, but it's cool for many styles and tastes), you can't go wrong with Sunn if the power's sufficient for your situation, IMHO.

Find a blackface version (not "blackface" in the 60's sense, but they were made in both black and silver panel models, I think). Late 70's early 80's or so.
These amp sound great with EV 15's. They really kick when you hook them up to two 15's.

I used a combo but came out into my EV TL 606 cab
for a recording job a few years back.
Very sweet sound.
