Tuner Recomendations...

I've had nothing but trouble with my planet waves tuner as well! I picked up a polytune this last Christmas, and it's great. I've had no problems at all. I've used it for live and studio purposes, and have no complaints. I haven't used it for setup/intonation purposes yet, but I imagine it would be fine. The Peterson seems to be a bit more precise, but I haven't seen a Peterson that lights up really bright. This is important for me when the stage is either completely dark, or I'm playing an outdoor show and the sun is beating down on my tuner. Polytune works great in both of those scenarios.

Really, better than the Peterson offerings?
Yes, definitely. The Turbo is far more accurate and far more rugged. Many people make a good case for the idea that greater accuracy is not a big deal, not perceptible, maybe even worthless. I'm not going to argue that angle. But the Turbo is factually more accurate. And definitely more rugged--people routinely complain that the screen assemblies on their Peterson pedals have peeled off, deformed, or otherwise gone bad. And the older blue Strobostomp has a history of failure, and mine certainly did, with all kinds of crazy readout on the screen.

Worth noting too that the Turbo has instrument-specific sweetened tunings just like the Peterson.

Is there no more love for the Turbo Tuner?

Yup! I loves me mine.

It sounds like the OP's gonna have 3 people tuning up on the same tuner. Especially If that's the case, the Turbo Tuner is worth a look - it's *really* fast! It works great on my bass, and my guitard's guitar. And it's *really* fast!

I've been using a Peterson VS-1 virtual strobe for a few years, and the Turbo Tuner is faster and more accurate.

The only advantage the Peterson has at this point is outdoor daytime gigs - the VS-1 is really easy to read under bright sunlight b/c it's an LCD rather than an LED display like the Turbo and nearly everything else.

The Turbo has a chromatic mode, along with a Guitar and Bass mode (the non-chromatic settings will only pick up the string notes - you play an F#it won't show you an in-tune F# like a chromatic will - it will show you that your G string is very flat).

The guitar and bass modes can be modified by sweetening, adding more strings, different notes, etc. There also three more presets you can program yourself. I made a preset for G-D-A-G-E-D-B since I often tune my A and E strings down to G and D, and I also have a 5-string. All of these presets are saved automatically as you program them, and stay even if you change the battery.

Turbo Tuner always comes back on in the same mode you left it, too.

You might need to spend a few minutes to get used to tuning to the strobing lights, but once you do, you can see it and tune precisely from across the stage if you had to!

So yeah, I love my Turbo Tuner :-)

I've had the polytune for nearly 2 years, and the other day I tried my stepdads pitchblack tuner and it seemed to be more easier to read but not as fast, I'm tempted to buy a pitchblack and use a back up tuner if something goes wrong with the polytune at a gig

or could just replace with a turbo tuner

Been using the Peterson Strobo Stomp 2 for a few years until some weasel stole it the other day... The crew wrapped up wires and pedals but 10 minutes later someone swiped my Peterson!

So I bought the new Stomp Classic which i really like so far..
Git players in one of my bands have two different LED style tuners.... one has the Boss TU2 and the other the Turbo Tuner. Some Super Bright Stage lights wipe out their LEDs at times as well as bright outdoor daylight sound checks or gigs.
They cant see the LEDs at all.. and will borrow my Peterson if the gig is not on yet....
Thats why i like the Peterson.. the LCD just becomes more visible in super bright lighting and the backbit LCD is perfect in even 100% black out stage as in between songs. No other tuner has been as flexible for me...
There is some video on youtube showing how fast the turbo tuner tracks. .But who in the real world tunes while playing 16th note runs? no on that i ever met!

Works in Dim or Bright
