Tuners

The Korg Pitchblack is the best compact tuner I've seen for the price. Go for it. ;)

The older Korg DT-10BR (or DT-10BK) are excellent alternatives, and are just as good as the Pitchblack which replaced them (although they are larger in size). They should be easy to find used, which will make them easier on your budget.

If you can afford it, the Peterson Strobostomp is a higher-accuracy alternative, but I don't think that sort of accuracy is truly necessary in most cases. It does have one major advantage otherwise - an LCD-based screen which allows it to be visible in bright light (LEDs get washed out in bright light, making them hard to see).

I wanted a Pitchblack, but got a Planet Waves Pedal Tuner from a friend, for free. :D

I love it, and if you wanna save five bucks, get it.
But hopefully you're not a tightwad and will spend the extra few bucks.

I really will say Korg Pitchblack. Idk if the display on it is bigger than the PW, but mine is really big and nice.

Yes! That's the name! Thanks, Chief.

Actually, I dunno if you can tell, that post was more of a veiled way of asking for the name of it. I wanted to pick up one of the tuners but couldn't remember the name, and didn't want to start a whole thread about it.

But if latkingz still interested, here's a link:

the only thing I didn't like about the pitchblack was that you can't set it in a "thru" mode...so the tuner works when the signal is passed thru it...otherwise it is a great little tuner.

If that doesn't bother you...then it's a good choice...

Had a chance to look at those Strobe Tuners from Sonic Research online today, and wow looks top notch.

Yeah, I am a "tuner snob" and the non-stomp Sonic Research Turbo Tuner is the best I've ever used. I would have bought a pre-order of the new stomp ones except I'm broke. :hmm: But as soon as I'm back in the game one of the first things I'll buy is the new stomp one, and I'll keep the other as a backup.

been using the boss for a while. gets the job done. I tried the peterson one and I was a bit overwhelmed by it. too much info. I just want a "yes/no which way to go" type thing. I could care less about how many cents I'm out. also the tracking is cool, but when it never settles on "in tune" it's kinda a drag.

oddly I got a planet waves little strobe thingy for guitar free w/ a set of strings. it's actually really cool. i thought it was a joke at first, but it is really accurate and small . . .

+1 to everything here. I've got the non-stomp version and it is the best addition to my arsenal in years. Fast, super accurate, *real* strobe tuning is great. The fact you can put in your own temperaments is fantastic. This product is way better than the virtual strobe units IMO. I've got it hooked up as a through on my board and it will track slow tempo lines, great for taming my crappy upright playing.

I've been using a cheap ole "Arion hu8500 Stage Tuner" since I started playing bass over 10 years ago. It looks like something someone dug up out of their back yard but has worked perfectly, it's easy to read in the dark, and isn't as jumpy as most tuners... so I never got a new one
I think it's not even true bypass lol
