I've played one of the USA ones. Super hot!. When did they start making them in Japan?

^Basscon, as far as I know they never built them in Japan, this one just found it's wya to Japan. They were all built by Mr. Tung, less than 100 were made in entirey, I believe. JM has 2, I think.

AFAIK, Myung owned 3 Tungs, all maple bodied with white ash backs: A Spalted-maple topped Wingbass II Bolt-on 6 that was his "main" bass and can be seen almost all live performances from that era ("5 Years In A LiveTime"), a Orange Sunburst Wingbass II Bolt-on 6 that can be seen in the vast majority and on the cover of his "Progressive Bass Concepts" instructional video, and a Spalted-maple topped Wingbass II Hybrid 6 ("half"-through construction) with a birdseye maple fingerboard that's used during the Metropolis Pt. 1 tapping breakdown in the video.

That last one? I'd seriously consider manslaughter for.

I'm pretty sure John owned a 5 string Tung bass that he used on Images and Words, and I'm pretty sure that before Awake, there was 6 six string basses on DT albums, but I could be wrong.

Anyway, that Yellow Tung is a jaw dropper, I'm not so much a fan of the sunburst but the yellow one grabs me, I love it!

If only Nicholas would come back to building basses and keep the restaurant on as a sideline...

JM used a 4 string spector (euro i think) on images and words DEFINATELY he switched to 6 strings exclusively on the tour and went from tobias to tung to yamaha.

I didn't see it stated in this thread yet , but I believe Tung basses came out of the crew Michael Tobias had just before Gibson took Tobias out of burbank ( Nicholas being the main guy ) . I always liked these basses and they influenced my designs .

I would love to own one some day .

Nice Thompson man, that from the 70's? I dug his more minimalistic work back before he got real crazy with laminates.

S'ok. Serial # is 3-24-80, would make it March 24, 1980...

The Tung was made in '93.

I played an F-bass Alain Caron Signature, and there really isn't much difference between the two. The Furlanetto (F-bass) was heavier, much heavier...
