Tuning in Tritones? F#CF#C

I don't alt tune. I have to wonder if there is really something you can't play in regular tuning that alt tuning and this tri-tone tuning provides ... particularlu with the tapping technique the OP used in his sample track ?

For one thing you have different harmonics that you can’t play with any other tuning. As you can hear in the bridge/fingerstyle part.

Also you have other open strings which can be used to get new chords. And because of the different tuning you get new chord shapes and voicings etc that are mostly impossible in standard tuning.
That’s the reason why many guitar players use open or alternate tunings.
 
I am not certain, but I believe Michael Manring tuned in two stacked perfect fifths an octave apart for some of his Hyperbass compositions.

Could be. I am not sure if they are an octave apart though. That would be a really wide gap for string tension. Think he uses two fifths a fourth apart. That’s a tuning I also use sometimes. And also two fourths stacked a fifth apart. I like the symmetry.
 
I'm going to try this when I get some Roto88's but as BFBF. Have me low B as per BEAD cake and get nearly the upper register range of 4ths in standard E on a 20 fretter ( just lose the D4 and Eb4.) Just not possible with the 5ths tuning path for increased upper register range without gauge change with those strings. Well in theory it's doable without a gauge change, but in this case the Roto88 075 tuned to F2 is a still usuable 61lbf. But tuning it to G# as per 5ths tuning just to get 1 extra upper register note, E4, takes the tension to 87lbf. Ouch!!
