Hi there all! I have recently received the honor of being able to paint one of my school's "dead" basses, and am needing some advice. For context, whenever it's more expensive to repair an instrument than the instrument is worth, the strings teacher at my school will give the instrument to a student for them to paint, and then the painted instrument will be hung on a wall in the strings room as an art piece. I don't know too much about woodworking and the making of basses, and need to know a couple things. Firstly, what's the best way to remove the varnish? I did some googling prior to making this post, and understand that my best course of action is to use a solvent stripper; I just wanted to know if there's a specific brand that anyone would recommend, or anything else I should do. Secondly, is there a specific kind of paint I should use, and how to properly seal it when I'm done painting? Also, I'm thinking about using some scrap sheet music as part of the design, and want to know if there's a proper way to go about that, or if some glue/paper mache would work fine?
