Tweeter Whine

Afternoon!

So I’ve got a problem I’ve yet to run Into that I can’t quite seem to pin point. Running a GSS sumo 1000 into a Darkglass 410c (the v1 cabs they did) and if I turn the high range knob on at all on the can I get a jet plane like whine out of the tweeter. Wondering if it’s coming from the amp itself or if there’s something funky with the tweeter.

There’s something wrong with the amp or something feeding it (like a preamp or poorly designed pedals.

No idea if it's a fundamental design flaw or perhaps a bad batch of amps.

I suggest disconnecting whatever is feeding the Sumo. If the problem still occurs, see if the volume control has any impact. I believe @crd 's amp did it with nothing connected and the volume all the way down

I’ll be damned if that’s not the exact same issue. Feeding the amp or not, no matter the volume level. Super disappointed. I just got this thing in the mail today.
Video might still be processing but sure as hell, same sound. It’s also ever so slightly audible with the tweeter knob all the way off.

I feel that. Really bummed about having to send this thing all the way back to France one way or another. I’ve got gigs lined up and really need to solidify gear so I don’t have to do this again. I’m actually playing a show with it tonight just keeping the tweeter knob off. Which sucks because my tone ain’t that great without it.

I’ve already sent an email to GSS as well with the video I posted so we’ll see what they say soon hopefully

I haven't forgotten about pursuing this further. My teaching gig pauses at the end of the month then I will document what is going on my with my amp further and keep emailing GSS.

Till then my trusty 30+ year old Walter Woods is serving me well on gigs.

Got a response after bugging a little bit, we tried a different circuit board; which definitely cut the jet engine sound, but currently the amp is doing an odd, phaser like sound every time you play a note. Currently just have to figure out how to get the amp back to them to return it for a refund because fedex wants to charge me anywhere from 4-600 at the cheapest. If anyone has a better option they know of I’m all ears.

I never did get a response from GSS. Luckily I was able to return the one I bought (from an awesome TB'er) for a full refund.
Besides only running cabs w/o tweeters, I'm short on options . . . sorry. I hope GSS steps up and gets this issued resolved for you.

Hopefully yours is working well for you. I’m a bit stuck with mine. Can’t send it back to France without paying about what it cost to purchase it originally. So unless someone will buy it at a discount and disclaimer that it’ll only do well on a cab without a tweeter, it’s going to remain a shelf ornament.
