Two Basses With the Same Serial Number! Uncanny!

Thanks guys, I have lol'd many many times reading these responses!
I talked to a lawyer friend last night and he strongly advised against posting pics of the serial numbers. He agreed that there was a very small likelihood that something bad would come of it, but better safe than sorry.
In the end, I realized that I was still not gonna play the Lakland much, even after discovering the serial number thingy. So Mrs. Sterling is happy (we're saving up for a new home to house our 3 boy humans and 3 boy dogs!) and I still have (what I believe to be) the greatest bass guitar ever built!
Here are the two basses. Man it would have been nice to keep both.

Ive got an idea. Cover up the left 2 numbers on one bass and the right 2 numbers on the other. That will both prove your claim And satisfy those that need pics without giving the whole number away.

I have 2 old Hofners with the same exact serial numbers. One was originally sold by the old Selmer Store in London. It is stamped on the top of the headstock. The other was originally sold in a PX outside of Berlin. It is stamped on the back of the headstock. Both have the same number. Inside the control panel they are dated a year apart.

We have a nice house in a great neighborhood but it is just too small for us now. The third boy was a bit of a, ahem, surprise, so we had to rethink our living situation!
There are websites where you can find VINs and it's easy to find street addresses along with mortgage information. A number stamped into a headstock would be the least of my worries.
Did you happen to read the Stones biography "New Gods Almost Dead"? There book ends with an accounting of a true story wherein a fan hands Keith Richards
a guitar to autograph, and naughty Keef leaps into his limo and absconds with the instrument.
Based on that anecdote, I'd be more concerned about Keith Richards minding my guitar for a minute than I would be about errant serial numbers on the interwebs.

Very true. However, my reasons for not posting the serial numbers have more to do with fraud and insurance per my lawyer buddies recommendation.
If any baddies wanna try to come take my stuff, they will only be met with a deafeningly loud alarm system, coupled with even louder dog barking, finished off with meeting their maker courtesy of ol' Betsy (12 gauge).
I was gonna say, there's a whole lot of "gun guys" on Talk Bass. I wouldn't advise climbing through any of their windows round 3am unannounced.
I think a more common internet mistake is posting on Facebook that you're abroad (and thus far from your unguarded house). Mike Watt is a bassist who springs to mind as one whose house was robbed by thieves who quite likely new he was on tour (backing Iggy in Europe).
Of course this is possible, but the odds are really high. If they are 6 digit numbers, it would be something like 100,000 x 100,000 x the number of different makes of basses that you would be likely to buy. If it is 7 or 8 digits - much higher! Crazy odds.
I got a firemist gold D. Lakin Bob Glaub bass with serial number BG007. I was VERY surprised whern I found a D. Lakin Bob Glaub at Bass Northwest, a white one with serial number BG007. I contacted Dan Lakin who answered, but nothing has happened to my knowledge.

My buddy and I bought two Hana Mod clones (copies of variable wattage ecig devices) from different stores a few weeks apart. A few months later mine - serial number 7916 - failed, and my buddy gave me his as a replacement.
I got on with using it quite happily, even after I saw the serial - 7912.
Epilogue: 7912 died as well. Got a warranty replacement. Now on #19600
.I'm gonna look up my bass's serial number so I can find out when it was built. Then every year I can have a birthday party for it. (No, I'm serious. August 17th, I celebrated my new pc's first birthday - it's an excuse to get drunk mostly. My pc got a "1 year faithful service" award
