Two Faced-ness

I really can't stand two-faced people. Went out a few times with this one girl at school, and then she decided to go out with one of my best friends. Big deal, I felt more sorry for him than angry, and all she does is complain about me to one of my best friends. Not to mention she complains about every ex she's had and I'm fairly sure that she's complaining about him too. Not just complaining, but spreading lies. Before me, she dated a good friend of mine, my RA at the time, and told me nothing but lies about him, who's a very reasonable guy. Just a bit on the macho side and refuses to talk about his emotions, but she basically insisted that he was a heartless, lying person (which he's not) and cheated on her (which he also didn't... he lived across the hall from me and I can attest to his whereabouts most nights)

And then there's another guy from my floor last year. Moved into a six person apartment, and he needed two more people to move in. A friend of mine and I decided to move in, get a bigger room and a bit more freedom. I find out that he's telling another friend of mine that I'm a liar, a cheat, and he doesn't want me around at all. Big deal, I couldn't care less.

The only thing that bothers me is that they're best friends to my face. Why can't people just be honest and stop lying about people?

Smiling faces sometimes pretend to be your friend
Smiling faces show no traces of the evil that lurks within.

Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes they don't tell the truth, uh
Smiling faces, smiling faces tell lies and I got proof.

The truth is in the eyes
'Cause the eyes don't lie, amen
Remember a smile is just a frown turned upside down
My friend let me tell you

Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes they don't tell the truth, uh
Smiling faces, smiling faces tell lies and I got proof.

Beware, beware of the handshake that hides the snake
I'm telling you beware, beware of the pat on the back
It just might hold you back
Jealousy (jealousy), Misery (misery), Envy.

I tell you you can't see behind smiling faces
Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes they don't tell the truth, uh
Smiling faces, smiling faces tell lies and I got proof.

Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes they don't tell the truth, uh
Smiling faces, smiling faces tell lies and I got proof.

(Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes)
(Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes)
I'm telling you beware, beware of the handshake that hides the snake
Listen to me now beware, beware of that pat on the back
It just might hold you back.

Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes they don't tell the truth, uh
Smiling faces, smiling faces tell lies and I got proof.

Your enemy won't do you no harm
'Cause you know where he's coming from
Don't let the handshake and the smile fool ya
Take my advice I'm only tryin' to school ya.

Smiling faces, smiling faces sometimes they don't tell the truth, uh
Smiling faces, smiling faces tell lies and I got proof.

There is a mask
That covers up one’s true intentions
Once removed, things become very clear
Analyze behavior patterns to see beneath
The person that is presented to you
Vulnerable through trust
Life is a twisted maze of obstacles
Presented by people with a secret face

What’s on the outside
Is not always all that is real
Live by caution, that's what I feel
When things are reversed
People are shown for what they are
The truth is revealed
Banish the false
Pacifying moments with an acquired disguise to obtain
The things they want
By the anguish of someone else
Materialistic motives are fulfilled
Cherish the true
Vulnerable through trust
Life is a twisted maze of obstacles
Presented by people with a secret face

Those kinds of people can be very frustrating, I agree. At least they make it easy for you to cut ties with them. I don't waste my time with those types after they get me the first time.

I can "become" the other person they say I am behind my back once they see me again.. if they have any moral regard, it catches them blind, and they either 'fess up, or let themselves out of my small "circle of friends"..

"I thought you were going to help me?!?!"

"Ahh, well you KNOW how untrustworthy I can be.."

+1

Imagine that happens with someone that you've known for 14 years and have considered a brother in all senses except blood...

yup, its F'd up.

Trust is a very fragile thing, and once that's broken, with me at least, its impossible to get back.

Just ditch them. then they are free to talk all they want about you, but you and your REAL friends will know better, anyway, so who cares?

I'm all for cutting ties with people like this as I usually do. However, I have to live with one in an apartment (papers signed, money paid) and the other is my RA, who's been known to lie about me... putting me in a difficult position.

Hmm, I have the idea than men are a lot more honest about friendships than women. If two men have a fight, there's a pretty big chance they'll apologise over a beer. Now, two girls can make conflicts go completely out of hand. Long time friendships are thrown out of the window in no time. People who are in the circle around those girls are forced to choose sides, and choosing sides makes you outcast as well for the other side, etc etc.

Major Metal, whattya mean what do I think it is that puts me in this position? Why does one think I'm a liar and why does my housemate dislike me for some random reason?

She basically came onto me looking for a relationship, and since I was rebounding from a two year relationship, it was okay. Then she decided she didn't want a relationship, cut it off, then decided she did but since I wouldn't be sucked back into it, she went after my best friend, then once again decided she didn't want a relationship again, hurt him in the process, and then repeated that again with another one of my best friends about three times.

She essentially is afraid of commitment, but denies that anything ever happened with any of us. And then if any of us mention anything, she calls us liars. She's got some issues in her mind.

And then to top it off, she's my RA. I know for a fact that she doesn't do her job properly, doesn't want to, and sneaks around drinking (underage) while on duty, smoking pot, and God knows what else.

As for my housemate, no idea.

Howdy Tim

I have often found that guys who do the 2 face backstabing thing very often lack any integrity and maturity. These guys and gals are probably very insecure and still trying to find their place in the social arena at your school and most likely are intimidated by your decency as a person. If I was in your situation I would probably try steering clear of this mess and try my best to keep people like this out of the immediate social circle. Is there any way you could change you living arrangements at this point ?All the best with it.

Too late, I've signed papers. Would cost me almost $2k to back out.

My original plan was to move in with my buddies off campus, but I backed out when another immature two-facer was going to move in with them, I opted out and me and my other friend were going to stay on campus in the freshman dorms, but then were invited into an apartment because two more people were needed. The good news is we have essentially our own dorm room where we can be entirely self sufficient except for the bathroom across the hall.

I COULD move out, back to the freshman dorms, but would be out $400 which I can stand, but would need to do a lot of arranging. I'll play it by ear.
