Two Monitors and a Woofer off one mixer

My practice setup involves a mixer being fed my direct signal and that of an ipod or computer so I can play along to songs and whatnot. My mixer only has two main outs and these both go to a 6 inch monitor. I'm thinking of a getting a studio sub for some extra low range bu I'm not sure on how to connect with my current setup.

Depends on the sub. I have a KRK Rok-It setup and the sub is designed to go with monitors, it has outputs. So the signal goes mixer -> sub -> monitors

Does our mixer have an AUX out?

What model/brand mixer do you have? How do you currently power up your two monitors, or are they powered? That unit should be fine, operation as described by Jehos.

I have a behrigner mixer and my monitors are hooked up with a 1/4" to XLR cable and our both plugged into a power strip.

Simple, buy your new sub box, connect the L-R into the sub with 2 XLR cables. Then plug your current monitors into the sub with appropriate wires.

Look at the photo of the back of the sub. It's obvious. It has inputs and outputs. You'd wire it just like I described wiring mine.

I use KRK Rokit8s and a Rokit10 sub easy setup and good sound.

If your mixer has AUX outputs, feed the sub with one of them. That way, you can assign only certain things to go to the sub, and only certain amounts of those things. For example, your iPod or computer might not need as much help from the sub as your bass does. AUX feeding the sub will enable you to fine tune as necessary.
