I finally looked at the web page. Frankly, they look nicer than the current four string Marcus Miller Sig. These cannot be too cheap.

That sunburst Jazz with the rosewood fingerboard is drool worthy! I don't see how MM is doing this if he still has relationship with Fender, after all he could have had Marcus Miller VM Squier issued for beginners and broke adults. I give Marcus Miller credit for his honest assessment of the 24 fret model, and how the extended fretboard affected his slap tone.

I'm just spitballin' ideas, but I have a few theories;

1. His FMIC agreement doesn't preclude him from entering into a deal with foreign companies. (assuming SIRE isn't State-side)
2. His FMIC endorsement is coming to an end.
3. SIRE is a subsidiary of, or in some kind of partnership with, FMIC.

I'm not speaking from any position of authority or inside information. I'm really just guessing, but if someone knows something, please "put me in my place" gently, 'kay?

That's interesting since no one is more closely associated with Seventies Jazz Basses more than Marcus Miller.

Sire is very aware that the Fender Marcus Miller signature bass and what Marcus Miller uses is 4 inches. But after countless testing with Marcus and the Sire technicians, They agreed that the 3.6 inches 60's spacing offers better tone.

What's the price point of an entry level bass?

While I appreciate Marcus' efforts to get a quality bass out there with a lower cost, my jaded experiences tell me it'll be looked down upon by those with money due to its low price and overlooked by those with .
limited funds because, again, of its low price. (Assuming it'll be in the 400 to 600 range.)

Who cares what other people think? Requirements for purchasing a bass, Is it light enough? Do I like the tone? Does it have a look I can appreciate? Does it feel good to play?

I'm not trying to take part in this price guessing game but for some reason, I'd like to get my hands on that natural finish Sire and play the crap out of it. Don't get me wrong, I've picked up some cheap bass guitars that just feel like utter crap in my hands, then again I've picked up a used bass marked at $120 that was refreshing and felt/sounded solid. If either of these basses ends up at "entry level" costs, I'd be gassing pretty hard for one.

If someone wanted to look down their nose at me for doing so I'd probably label him a douche and park him in the "people who don't really exist to me" part of my brain.

Fair enough. Unfortunately, much of the buying public feels otherwise. It's the whole "you get what you pay for" mentality.

Most people's belief on "you get what you paid for" is based solely on a biased opinion that hasn't held water since the 90s (for South Asian) or 80s (for Japanese). The belief that American is better is nothing but a remnant of an over-patriotic capitalist society.

Perhaps, but my comment was based on Fender's "baked in" distribution having minimum purchase requirements.

I was thinking a "Signature" line as it's own brand could be a way to upsell what might otherwise be offered and priced as a Squier.

Be carefull: they've cloned Marcus ! This is not the real one ! Their Marcus is "Miler", not "Miller". After cloning basses for years, they're now cloning musicians !

If the quality of the website is any indication of the quality of the bass ("swarp ash" body?), I wouldn't expect much. $99 is definitely the least expensive bass I've ever seen with that feature set.
I did notice that there is no "shipping method" available right now, so you can't actually complete a purchase... At least, not to anywhere near me.

Just tried to buy a M3 and it would not let me get past shipping as it gave no shipping method. Something is fishy!

I also tried ordering with no success. I got the same "no shipping method at this time" message. I sent an email to Sire explaining the problem. We shall see.

Having said that, if I actually COULD purchase the Marcus Miller V7 for $99.00, it would be a very Merry Christmas indeed!
