TWO new Marcus Miller budget signature model basses!

So I wonder.. Is his deal with Fender done with.. .There is trademark issues with Fender and the Marcus Miller Bass name..... I wonder how that shakes out??

would be weird to see fender Sue him over name rights on that bass, but i wouldnt put it past fender..
Just a few years ago Fender Lost a huge suit after attempting to stop all manufactures from using the J, P , strat and tele body shapes ..

After perusing the site and reading of all the features, the Jazz styled bass will by no means be an entry level instrument.
I stand by my $1100 guess.

You may be right I didn't dig in that far. Just going off the video that was posted, it seemed to me Marcus was saying he wanted to put a good bass out there that was of high quality for a beginner. With that thought process I was also thinking that maybe this doesn't interfere with the Fender MM bass.

Yeah, there was something about the Fender signature still being fantastic, but he also wanted something affordable for beginners. I'm guessing £400-600. Funny how mid control (sweepable at that) is a must, while on the Fender it isn't.

That's why there the East MM Retro. I got one for my MM.

Not a chance. The site tells you itself that "in the price range", other bodies are usually agathis or basswood (Squier level). That bridge (with a screw in each corner) is a $6 part, and using Swampash or Alder for bodies, or rock maple for necks isn't going to add much $$ to the cost of the bass.

I would agree with others that these basses will be in the $400 range for the 4 string models, but if he's due $200 a unit or something as part of the naming deal, they could be in the $500-600 range.

These have nothing at all to do with Fender (otherwise they'd use the Fender headstock), and if I had to guess, few of these make it to the North American retail market and this is more of a line targeted for the Korea/Asian/Europe markets.

That said... Sire Guitars is the US branded line from this Korean company and their office is in Corona, CA, so maybe it's a side venture of some kind that may or may not have Fender's blessing. Perhaps MM got close with someone in Fender's production or marketing group who had contacts overseas, and they're branching off on their own. Stranger things have happened.

As they strike me as a Schecter copy, I'd guess the street price to be $599-799. That's purely a guess.

The preamp looks sweet, no matter what the bass costs. Gotta love all that function in a relatively small amount of holes.
And I'm guessing he's endorsing them because he got paid to. It's Marcus Miller... he's been paid more money to play on peoples' albums than I'll ever count in my lifetime.
What, is he going to turn down money?!? He played on "Walk The Dinosaur", what else do I have to say?!?
:D

I actually like the song, in all honesty. And it was a hit, but he didn't know that when he plugged in at the studio.

And I hope he is genuine in his desire to get quality instruments into the hands of young players...

Just saying that he's not doing it out of the kindness of his heart. Money is involved.
