Two Note Torpedo CAB M

Thanks for sharing .

But, who would by a pedal with No footswitches?? o_O
So, to change a preset, you would have to bend down and adjust by hand?
There is clearly space for two small switches (preset up & preset down + hold for on/off).

The whole purpose of a "pedal" is to be able to activate it with your foot!
Even companies like Nux & Mooer get the pedal concept right!
I think Two Notes made a huge mistake with the design of this product.....

Good points. It's not really a stomp box like they say on the website. You can use a smartphone as a remote though.

I'm not sure the footswitch is such a problem, as this is mainly an ampsim. How many people have footswitches on their amps? (for bass)

Not really comparable - How many bass amps have 8 power amps & 32 cabinets attached?

Having to use a phone/tablet to change presets is not practical on stage (no reputable amp sim hardware requires a phone/tablet to turn it on/off).

It also has no midi, so you cannot change its presets with a regular switcher/controller.

Generally, Two Notes Torpedo C.A.B. effects sound AWESOME, but.........
Its functionality seems to be unncessarily & awkwardly limited, only to keep the previous C.A.B. device relevant.

Still... My guess is that most shows only really call for a single amp-sim. How many people switch amps/ampsims mid song, or mid gig? My guess is this normally only happens when you switch instruments, and then you're already back a few good seconds/minutes setting up.

I'm pretty sure you can switch presets with the rotary knob, no? So yes, need to lean, but no need for phone/tablet

Judging by the Two Notes site, it looks like the CAB-M replaces the original Torpedo C.A.B.

Agreed, though: this adds a couple features that improve on the original CAB (smaller footprint, XLR DI, aux in), but seems to have fewer IRs, fewer presets, and loses the CAB's footswitches and MIDI in. As a replacement for the CAB, it's an odd pitch.

I posted a thread over in the Live Sound Forum about this device. The unique appeal of the CAB M is that it can take output from a power amp (not a load box, so it needs to pass through to a speaker cab) in order to capture the effect of power amp stage dynamics and tone. In this application it seems to lean toward the static set-and-forget category. Price point is key.

There are definitely cab sim pedals that have more suitable features if you want to have multiple virtual "rigs" and switch between them. Typically, amps and cabs are paired together for a reason, so agreed, the CAB M isn't a great solution in this context.

I recall seeing something in the video about this being a solution for gig back line situations, where sound techs can use virtual mic'ing for a cleaner stage, fewer stands, fewer live mics. I used the HK RedBox this way for years as a live mixer.

$299 I can see this being a worthwhile investment for bassists who really like their amp & cab, but want a small, reasonable DI method to get a consistent, studio quality cab sim tone on the gig.

I've had discussions here and elsewhere with players who disregard cab sim technology because they lack a good representation of power output stage. For them, the CAB M seems like a great option, and certainly a lot less hassle than the inherent problems you can run into if you insist on mic'ing your bass cab live.

CAB M has 2 virtual mics (a new feature) per cab sim, so you can do a close mic/room mic blend. You won't get that on most stages. Cool. IIRC the length of the IR playback has also increased. There is debate as to whether increased IR length matters for much.

Thanks for posting this, I’ve been dying for more info and a price!!
I had the original Torpedo C.A.B and used it for years and never really used the footswitches. I can’t remember ever needing to change it during a song. I sold the CAB when I got a positive grid bias amp which I used the app on my phone to control during shows, practice and recording and I absolutely loved having that access, I found it really easy to use, admitedly you’re not controlling pedals so you don’t need to make adjustments during songs.
I eventually sold the positive grid and got a kemper but I still use two notes as plugins for tube and cab simulation when I record and in my opinion it’s still best in class. This CABM would be great for recording to free up my cpu and I’d pair it with my kemper. Also I could use it to create new kemper profiles from all tube amps.
I agree with the design concerns, it is different for sure but for my specific use and particular set up it looks like a good fit.

That neunaber pedal looks really cool, I had their iconoclast for a while, they definitely make some quality gear

I would love to have one of these!! Way cool. No footswitch doesn't bother me. This is the kinda thing, once you set, it's done. It's not like you're going to engaging and disengaging as a show goes on. I wouldn't anyway. Seems like a winner to me.

It is silly it has no midi though.

I'm guessing that when products omit certain features, they're doing so in order to cut down on production and programming costs. If this CAB M were $499 with standard & USB full MIDI implementation, would you think a little harder before pulling the trigger?

Only speaking from personal experience, I've been using amp modeling with cabinet simulations for many, many years, and can't remember when a specific gig called for me to need more than: a single cab sim DI feed, and a dry bypass. YMMV, and everyone's different. If no MIDI is a dealbreaker, then looks like a different product is what you'd need. Probably significantly more $$ to match the quality and reputation of Two Notes. JMHO
