Two vintages basses....crying in pain

Good thing I don't have to meet someone's standard for level of playing for the bass I play. Because a well-set up SX bass plays better than I can play it.

Fortunately, some people have standards. Like the OP. Bee basses are awesome, top level boutique instruments. I'm sure that Beebassdude is a first call session guy in New York or LA to be playing one. He must be, to play an instrument of that caliber.

Or maybe they're just instruments to the dad - which is a really good thing, IMO.
We'd all be better off if more of us were less intense about "things".
When my "materialistic" dad died, and we went to divide up his "cherished possessions" we realized he had no cherished possessions. He cherished his family. He *enjoyed* nice things, but he cherished *people*.

If you have reviewed my profile, then I would guess you are correct. A gig bag suit my needs for protecting and transporting my basses just fine.

yeah, I gave up wrestling cases years ago... I've got a nice leather double bag, a decent nylon single and a cheap 'pointy bass' bag for the Destroyer. Only marks on my basses are wear from playing them, nothing related to transportation.

lol, its not me saying "oh man im so good and he shouldnt have those cause he sucks", its me saying i find it odd that a little 15 year old clueless kid is walking around with 4K of vintage basses that he has no clue about. thats odd to me, clearly most of you seem to think this is fine. i play out a lot, this is the first time in my playing experience ive ever seen a kid show up with that kind of gear and have 0 clue about what hes holding. again, in my experience, most peoples gear fits their level. beginners show up with beginner stuff, great players come out with better stuff, it just seems to work out that way.

maybe its the lack of appreciation due to his age that floored me, i get just as irked when some local highschool kids first car is a BMW M3, but again, maybe most of you think thats fine too, which again is just a difference of opinion.

If i had a kid id loan them my nice old vintage instrument. then again im only 24 and dont exactly want kids at the moment. but id definately loan them a nice bass nice gear seems to add confidence. id want to be at the show either way just to support my kid.

+1 Hey Spaz, I'm 25 and feel the same way. As long as they didn't pull a Paul Simonon on "London Calling" I'd be ok.

not really, i have some really nice basses and im not a P or ric guy. i was more bothered that a complete novice is walking around to gigs with gorgeous pieces of history that he has no business playing. lol

not really your call. the guy paid for the basses and he can do with them what he wants, even let his kid who isn't that great play it. keep your eyes on your own paper, bro

Well, if these basses were in fact, "pristine", then they are combined worth about $5000 sooooo I'd say they were worth getting hard cases for.


But that's not my point. My point is, a kid walking about with two vintage "pristine" basses in gig bags doesn't make any sense. The story doesn't make sense. I could care less what people do with their gear - the point strictly is something in the story isn't adding up for me.

I don't believe I ever said I don't have hard cases for them, I choose to use gig bags. Specifically, I use Mono bags. If you are not familiar with the Mono brand, you should check them out. They are very nice and worth every penny. As to my basses, they are not "pristine". They are used and certainly command a higher price than 5k for the lot.

But that's not my point. My point is, a kid walking about with two vintage "pristine" basses in gig bags doesn't make any sense. The story doesn't make sense. I could care less what people do with their gear - the point strictly is something in the story isn't adding up for me.

I didn't see any reference in this thread where the kid is walking around with these basses. He was playing a Rick w/the P bass tucked away in a gig bag (Gasp! ). The post originated as a result of someone not comfortable with the idea of a younger, unexperienced person using instruments which may or may not be 70's period. To me this is just a story that has generated many opinions on the subject. Perhaps that is why it was posted in the Bass Humor and Gig Stories Forum.

No, the mis-communication is that none of the original story makes any significant sense when taken in parts, and my only point specifically is to make that case while some others continue to lambaste the kid who supposedly had his dad's collector's grade basses in gig bags at a punk rock show.
