Two vocalists?

Hey guys,
I'm starting a new band, and two different singers are interested. They both are great singers, and where one is weak, the other is strong and vice versa. They don't play instruments, and we already have all the members in place for that. So we'd theoretically have two guys with two mics running around without any instruments. Singing off of eachother, complimenting eachother, etc.

- Does this work? Are any of you guys in bands like this? Can you think of any bands like this? I know two singers is common, but usually at least one of those people have an instrument attached to them somewhere

Harmony...you can also do neat things such as echos, counterpoint, etc...

two singers is a cool idea. I have wanted two singers in a band for a long time ( and I joined one with two, 1 high vocals and the other is mid-low vocals + guitar ).

We have three singers... who play instruments.

I'm not cutting the pay another way for someone who doesn't play an instrument, unless they're the next phenomenal superstar ready for a record deal.

I've never EVER seen a "single singer song"...

There's always room for harmonies and such...

there are a few biggish bands who have 2 singers, can't remember what some of them are called but one of em is 3 inches of blood.

It sounds like you've got a good thing going there and I would definitely try to keep them both.

The sum of two is often worth much more than 1+1.

maybe try to get them to to a little bit of aux percussion.

The last band I can remember having two vocalists was Downthesun, and they were the musical equivalent of dysentry. Make sure you avoid that and you'll be fine!

Personally, I don't think I could operate in a band with two "lead" singers...it seems kinda gimmicky and having twice the ego issues to deal with? No thanks!

Mind you, if you work it well it'll sound good!

singers get sick and get stroppy. Always carry a spare.

The band I've been in for the last couple months has a pair of female vocalists with rich soulfull voices but no instruments. It works out great as long as the singers spend the time figuring out how to work together (ours do).

They occasionally pick up the claves or tamborine... Mainly to look busy I think. It's always weird when someone is just standing around.

Hopefully that demo will get mixed down soon so I can put up some clips...

if its screamo, you can always just create sonic depth by one carrying the low growls and one with the highs. worked for just about every death metal band I ever heard
