Okay, I need help with my forgetful brain today.
I need to wire a passive P bass (Squier CV '50s) and forgot about Linear and Audio taper numbers and designations.
If I remember correctly, a 250K Audio Taper Pot works good for volume on a single pickup passive bass.
And 250K Audio or Linear Taper Pots will both work for a Tone control, yes?
I have a few B250K pots here, which I think makes them Alpha Brand and they probably came off a Peavey at some point but I'm not positive.
I also think that the B250K number stamped on them makes them Audio Taper but I don't know for sure.
Please somebody remind me if I am remembering correctly.

Your tone definitely needs to be audio taper (A type) to have any type of usable operation. Volume can be either, especially for a single pickup bass.
So, the B250K stamp means both that I have here are Alpha Linear 250K for volume only?
And I need to look in my parts drawer for at least one A250K Alpha for tone, yeah?
Peavey must have been using B250K for volumes at some point, both of them have the right side terminal buss wired to the Pot case.

Correct! If you use a linear taper for a tone, like 95% of your rolloff is in the bottom 5% or so.
With shipping that's about the right price.

Now just a few details left and time to do my setup but I dig the black hardware look. Thanks again @58kitesThe Guyker tuners are not perfect fits but damn close. I had to use shims in the bore holes but was able to use the pin holes for the screws and the weight is the same. Not bad for the price.

OK I need a little sanity check from the good people in this club. Just picked up a '92 Dyna 5 string. Nice enough bass, but the neck feels like a 6-lane highway when compared to my Gibbies. I distinctly remember playing a 1st generation Dyna - granted, a 4-stringer - that had a Jazzish neck proportions and felt in my hand nowhere as wide as this one. Yes, I understand the 4/5 string difference, but here's the actual question: is there a significant difference in the neck profile in general between the 1st and 2nd generation Dyna basses or I'm fantasizing ?

Yeah, mine feels quite small and thin compared to most 5 string basses. Granted, It has been quite a while since I've played a 1st gen Dyna 5.
I have a '91 Dyna 5 (& a '85 Dyna 4). The Dyna 4 is indeed similar to a J profile with the 1.5" wide nut. My '91 must be the last of the Super Ferrite Dyna 5-ers, as they clearly did a redesign in '92. It's a pretty thin neck for a 5 string, but not very different than my other 5 string basses, especially at the nut. It's up the neck where it gets different. The big thing influencing that is the string spacing: my Dyna 5 has that 'early 5 string bass' spacing at 16.5mm. That's after spacing the strings out as far as I can without the strings falling off the edges of the fingerboard. My preference is with Fender and Lakland 5 spacing at 18.5-19mm, yet I easily adjust into Musicman 5 spacing of 17.5mm, too. To do the 18.5-19mm spacing, the neck gets pretty wide as you approach the heel. I also adjust to the Peavey's narrow spacing, but it's sort of tight with my right hand.
What I find interesting with my 91 Dyna 5 neck, is that it's nearly identical to the neck profile of my 82 T45 neck (that is mounted on my Frankenbass with an 87 Foundation body and Toaster pickups).
Some specs:
T45 neck--width at nut 1.744", width at 12th fret 2.21", width at heel 2.41". Thickness at 1st fret .79", at 12th .97"
Dyna 5-- width at nut 1.75", width at 12th fret 2.31", width at heel 2.53". Thickness at 1st fret .83", at 12th .97".
The T45 neck has an 8" radius, where my Dyna 5 has a 12" radius. The earlier manual for the Dyna 5 states an 8" radius, so I feel mine is in transition to the next generation of Dyna 5, which states a 12" radius. I prefer the flatter radius for 5 string. What's also interesting is that this neck profile is also very similar to a late 50s maple board Fender P bass, as well as the neck profile of P basses made in 1983 and 1984. A very comfortable profile.
The thought crossed my mind that I could remove the extra tuner on my Dyna 5 neck, cut a new nut and use that neck on my 4 string bodies. I really do like the feel of that profile.
I like the body finish on your Dyna 5, pretty cool.
I did not know it was an option thing, I just assumed it was a model year thing.
I've seen a bunch of Patriot pics with each of the two widths, never saw a Dyna 4 pic where I noticed a wider neck.
I've only seen Patriots having this double pin-stripe decoration, other Peavey basses (with a stripe) all seem to have the single pinstripe surrounding the headstock.
Was this double stripe thing a Patriot only thing?

Thanks! It's a nicely done refin to the body. It's a big part of what drew me to this instrument.
I wanted to get my hands on a SF loaded Dyna 5, and this one was a basket case when I got it, so I got it dirt cheap. It needed a new tuner, the pots on the board all had to be removed, restored and reinstalled, it needed a new nut and a little leveling of the frets to offset some wonkiness in the neck. My bandmate (with the proper tools and skills) did the nut and frets for a bottle of Mescal. I found a tuner on Reverb. Once all done, it set up and played great. I didn't think I was going to keep it since it's such a tight 5, but I got used to it and of course, love the tone! Not bad for well under $300 total investment.
The one small thing is that the G string on the bridge pickup is a little quiet. It's because the string is just on the edge of the magnetic field of the pickup. If I nudge the string in a bit, it gets it's volume back, but then it's too tight for the already narrow spacing of the strings. The G sounds fine when both pickups are blended or on the neck pickup, which is how I prefer to play the pickups, so I'll leave it as is.
Holy crow, you got a lot done for under 300 bucks! So much quality for so little money with so many used Peaveys.
1st Gen DynaBass came in 1 1/2 " and 1 11/16ths " nut widths.
The twin stripes logo were used on some Patriots and the Mantis.
I have yet to see a Dyna with the wide nut. I keep my eyes peeled, though.
The unicorn I seek is a wide nut Patriot neck, preferably with black headstock and the Schallers.
