If the reason was trade tariffs then all our imported strings would be affected yet they're not, with our VAT sales tax (average 20%) it's pretty much £/€ = $; Sweetwater charge $43 for La Bella 760 FS and Thomann charge £43.

Then I look at Thomastik JF 324/344/364, £50 here but $84 to $100 from Sweetwater.

Cynic in me can't shake the feeling that the reason you folks are expected to pay so much more is hidden behind some "they're imported" BS.

Im guessing TI flats do not sell in any large numbers here in the states, thats with flats in general from what ive been told by shops thru the years.

In GC in KC years back there was a huge markdown on a set of TI bass rounds like under $20 and they said they were discontinued at the time....i should have bought them.

From that year, the neck was probably the bi-laminated two piece, still with the truss rod cover and the brass truss rod nut.
The neck finish should be glossy.
The logos on the headstock should be very "lightning bolt" -ish.
The nut will be 1.5 inches and neck is gonna be fairly "Jazz" -ish.
The tuners are probably the old Titan tuners that don't have any little screws attaching them to the headstock and the tuner keys are not clover shaped.
The body is very likely Poplar and the bass probably weighs 8.25 pounds.
The nut is very likely Tusq.
I think the pickups will still be the nice standard Super Ferrite pair.
I don't remember if 1990 was the Gen 3 body shape of the Gen 2 body shape but either way it will be svelte P bass type shape with pointier horns top and bottom.

EDIT: While I was typing you posted the pic, but everything I said is probably right other than the Foundation font.

I dont recall when Super Ferrite pickups stopped...89 Fury went to a P type but what about Foundations and others?

I have my bros 85 Foundation here (same black w maple neck) with Fender 9050s...commonly referred to as a 'J bass on steroids'....i think its closer to 9 lbs though.

I think the last of the Gen 1 Slant Fury basses were in 1986.
I think the Fury got the split P pickup in 1987 or late '86.

I was thinking early 1990s...I must say, tonally my early 80s ash/maple Fury with slant Super Ferrite is completely different than the 89 Fury w Duncan SPB1 (which is pretty much a Fender P bass sound).

Slant Fury borders on a Ric sound w rounds....with the tone rolled all the way off it just cuts, no mud or wooly tone at all....ash body w bigger maple neck.

I'm not sure if everything is stock, but it definitely never had a slant pup.

I think the Duncan SPB1 Vintage P Bass pickup pretty much makes any P Bass sound like the real deal, regardless of body wood or fretboard wood.
I think Duncan nailed it with the Vintage and Antiquity P pickups.

Yet every string company offers at least one set, most carry multiples and flats seem to be the only reason La Bella make bass guitar strings. Somebody in the states buys them :)

Thomastik still still offer round wounds sets, 'Power Bass' and 'Super Alloy'.

Pretty decent sellers.

Dynabass / TL-5 moved away from SFs around 1991, Foundations continued up until 1995; split coil 2nd gen Furys were 1987.

I was surprised Peavey copied the P bass so closely with the 2nd gen Fury (except for the J neck)...a local shop was a Peavey dealer late 70's and Peavey was always very distinctive with their designs overall...Peavey made a lot of great basses and very solid bass amp/cabinets.
