I did so well on the $100 foundation last weekend that I can sort of justify it! It’s basically in unplayed condition.not a mark on it and the original case. Probably won’t get the tone from it like the super ferrite pickups but I feel it will be similar to my Unity koa passive model?
I would buy that immediately, the price is right. Hundred dollar Peaveys in good shape don't come that often anymore.
Those pickups sound good, I think they're the same ones that are in your Koa Unity.
That's a nice looking piece of rosewood.
I think that shape is an improved Precision, my favorite Peavey body shape.
The tuners are very good. All I would do to that bass is change the bridge saddles to Wilkinson brass.

If you like the feel of a Foundation, but want the sound of a P/J, they are perfect. I'd snap it up since it's so clean. Easy flip with no $$ loss if you don't like it.
I was looking for a Foundation S when I found my Forum Plus to be my 4 string P/J. The Forum Plus was $160 and metallic green, which won out for both color and price over the black $300 Foundation S. Granted, I put $250 worth of parts (pickups, new pickguard and metal P knobs) on it to get it how I like it. The Foundation S would have just got knobs.
The Foundation S is (arguably) slightly nicer than the Forum Plus, as it's from the 80s vs mid 90s (when cost cutting measures really started to shine through). If a black Foundation S popped up for a screaming deal, I might just jump.
I'd change the knobs too but I seem to do that on most basses for some reason.
I prefer the 1982 through 1990 years for Peavey though your Forum Plus is pretty damn snazzy in English Racing Green.
Not usually a fan of red basses but that Foundation S looks like a very good bass that I would snap up with the quickness.
I may have made a mistake about the price, I paid $100 for my black foundation with the ferrite pups, this one is $300. I went to look at it and it was mint but…the neck was gapped about an 1/8” between the pocket and I could see where someone added some sort of brass colored inserts that were not seated properly and we’re keep the neck from being secured to the body. The neck was straight, looked to need a truss rod adjustment to bring the relief a little straighter, no hump at the last few frets near the heel. Bridge saddles were in the middle of adjustment so could be lowered. I passed on it because of what was going on there. But keep thinking about maybe going back to get it?? Without removing the neck I can’t see what is really going on there. He wasn’t there and his spouse showed it to me.
I went back and offered less for it because of that and it went unanswered. I knew this person well and yet they acted like they knew nothing about it and the existence of the brass inserts. At that point I let it go because they had something to hide. Think I dodged that mess. Still was in great cosmetic condition! That’s quite the riteous Patriot there!

I would call and tell the owner you are interested but really need to pull the neck to figure out what is happening behind there.
Lots of people would be fine with that and some would not.
I pulled the trigger on the red foundation s tonight and picked it up. All electronics work, the neck straightened out after I detuned it and am going to let it sit overnight before I remove the neck in the morning to find out what’s going on there. So far I am pleased with what I am finding. It need a good fret polish and cleaning only one ding in the finish and a couple of scuffs on the back, plastic film is still on the back control cavity plate and zero fret wear. Back of the neck is pristine with no marks, like it came off the showroom floor. Original case in great condition inside and no smells!
Yeah, I love those metal P knobs, even when installed on a post-1984 bass.
I'm the same, 80s Peavey is where it's at. I got lucky with the Forum Plus. It took all the new parts and pieces very well, set up like a champ and continues to be a super stable, killer bass. I'm a sucker for green, it's the color that will always take the tie. Black Foundy S are found waaaay more often than a green Peavey anything.

Totally speculating: if they were a misaligned attempt to make the neck to neck pocket joint stronger, hopefully it can be cleaned up and done right. It makes sense to use machine screws and inserts for a neck joint, despite it costing more to do so. If I built instruments, it's how I'd roll.
My gosh! I have that very same strap, although mine is in a much more worn condition than yours.

Who knows about Peavey Unity Series (non-Dyna Bass) passive basses? My question is about what the stock pickups are on these basses - probably some version of Peavey's Alinco P/J's. I picked up one of these basses and it seems to have Seymour Duncans in it, with incorrect pots - so it seems like a post-pickup replacement job. Just trying to figure out what was in there originally. Thanks for your response.
