I bought my first Peavey the other day. I've been a short and medium scale player for years, but was feeling frustrated with limited options, and on a whim decided to give an '85 Patriot a go for pretty cheap.

Great bass so far - needed some TLC, polishing off what must have been a couple decades of fret patina, tweaking truss rod,etc. It was very easy to get it playing perfectly. Loving the neck, and enjoying working on more of a simandl type fingering to accommodate my pesky ulnar nerve.

I really knew nothing about them except for 'high quality US made basses for pretty cheap' before pulling the trigger. Now I have a question - the pickup on mine does not have the inscribed/embossed labeling on the cover. It just says Peavey in one corner. Were these made without that full labeling? I guess I would be surprised if it had been swapped out, but you never know. It sounds great, powerful and articulate, but I am curious now.

Look at Sedona Lee and Domur in my sig line. I love Lowe necks...you don't need a Lowe neck to convert, just a Warmoth Warhead 32" scale neck. I have 6 more 32" scale Peavey conversions in the pipeline.

I'm actually thinking of starting a "Warvey" 32" Scale Club...myself and @primussucks9126 would be #1 and 2. I know @F-Clef-Jef was thinking of doing one of these conversions as well.

I'm also considering it. The '83 Gold slant Fury I picked up last year has a maxed truss rod and still too much relief. I bought some square nuts to drill out and try and add some more adjustment. If that fails, the next step would be sending it out to the Warped Neck folks... but with all the shipping that might be as much as getting a replacement neck.

That sounds like an amazing bass! Would love to see a Warmoth neck on it!

No picture...like this one? This bass is one of my favorite players. The neck was shot so I had this foundation installed. This is the only peavey neck I've had to give up on.

I have read here of putting washers behind the TR nut to give it more life, I have never tried it myself.

Man, a 32" Peavey would be great, though I am not sure the Lowe necks work for peavey, lol. Could always pop a capo on 1, but I am trying to see if I can push my hands/elbow to play a 34' again, with a simandl approach. Unlike our beloved 85 pats, this 85 Patriot is a winner for sure.

Of course I now have even more gas for these - would love to also grab on with a rosewood board, or painted headstock, or, or...

Think i'll hold off for now, as I have a red one. Wish these had come in more colors, but I do like the mahogany, white, and teal, so plenty of choices out there.

I have never seen a fretless Patriot. They do have a few more colors although pretty rare it seems. There's a Yellow which I have only seen in catalogs and one showed up on the Patriot thread. Also Frost Blue which I have and had customized with a second pickup.

I know there are white Patriots out there (one of my faves, Chuck Schuldiner (R.I.P.) from Death holding one right there...not sure why this picture exists)...not sure if they were made with a rosewood board and matching white headstock though.

I saw a white one for sale when i looked around somewhere - maple with natural headstock.

I also looked around to see if all the old peavey catalogs had been scanned and uploaded somewhere - like has been done for Ibanez. I am also a huge fan of the '83 and earlier Ibanez basses, and those are a great resource.

I could not find an archive of Peavey catalogs though. Looked like one site might have had them, but required a password/registration etc.

If you take a straight blade screw driver that the end is slightly smaller than the inside of the insert but the blade gets wider than the inside of the insert about a half inch up, then you can just stick the screwdriver in the insert and tap it in with a small hammer until it's good and snug and then just unscrew the insert with the screw driver.

If Plan A doesn't work you could mix up a bit of two part epoxy (or JB Weld) and then goop some all around on one of the screws, then slather the rest inside the insert and then screw the screw into the insert and let it set for a half day, and then unscrew the screw and the insert should unscrew with it.
Just make sure you don't get it on the wood of the neck and epoxy the insert in place.

Here are a few videos of the process to properly put threaded inserts into a neck.
They are using the better (non brass) inserts for the job.
These videos show how it should have been done.
Maybe something in them will be useful for you as you work towards getting your situation fixed.

That looks like maple to me
