U.S. Peavey Club

My fellow Tb'ers and Peavey owners...
I am a proud owner of a 1989 Rudy Sarzo Signature bass and I am considering replacing the stock machine heads with Hipshot Mini Machine heads.

However, after much searching and researching there are two sizes available and I cannot find anywhere what the shaft size of the stock machine heads are.
Does anyone know what the size is? Is it: 3/8 OR 1/2?

In that way I can order the correct size for my RS....

Hey man, apologies if that came across sounding smartass. Didn't mean it that way.

I really just meant, you never know who might have done what to your bass along the way (unless you bought it brand new). So, even if you found Peavey specs for the info you want, it still could turn out to be wrong. Not that likely, true. But, the only truly safe way to be sure is to just take off a tuner and measure it.

I just checked and found that my Patriot fits in my Foundation S contour cases as well as it does in the original Patriot coutour case. As Tim mentioned, the clearance for the strap button on the upper horn is tight. The Schaller button just barely fits, you might need to make a small cut in the case for the taller Dunlop dual type buttons.

I also checked a standard rectangular Peavey Foundation hard case and the Patriot does not fit well. The neck doesn't seat well and there isn't proper clearance around the headstock.

There's a Foundation S Active on eBay, and the seller wants $399.95. Googling around the web, that seems more than a tad high. I offered him $281 (in other words, $310 including shipping) which I thought was very fair. He turned it down.

Am I too cheap, or is he too greedy? I think my offer was rather generous, but I could be mistaken.

Here's a shot for y'all Peavey USA fans. Summer of 1998.

Yeah I know, there's not really a good reason for that kind of exclusivity. The size of the club sure would be a lot smaller.

I borrowed an expensive wireless to try for a few shows right around that time.
Enabled me to hear just how great the Dyna and the Ric thru the SVT sounded from out in the crowd.

I just about always used the Dyna in passive mode.
The pre-amp seemed to have a little bit of noise/hiss.
The SuperFerrites sound so good they really don't need the help of a pre-amp. IMHO of course.

I agree that even the best wireless systems degrade the signal a bit compared with just a good instrument cable.
But could you really tell in a loud bar stuffed full of peeps?
They were some great shows that summer.

but this neck is so wide, unfortunately not for me.

is there a way to find or change the battery box on Dyna - TL series etc... it's always missing or broken :hmm:

CrewsControl, it's likely (without seeing it) priced too high. Sellers can be motivated so many different ways...

It could be...the seller is dead broke, or he's working the market 'fishing' for more than you were willing to pay, or he may be simply greedy-looking for some sucker to come along.

People like us 'like' to think that sellers are uniformed. However, with the Internet-that's becoming a less likely prospect, anymore.

Listing says one owner, if it's him, then he may just be attaching sentimental value to it that buyers like me won't want to pay. But his reply to my offer said "You won't find a nicer playing bass at twice the price" so that makes me think he's a reseller. That's just too boilerplate to be sincere. And I have, in fact, found basses that play as nice as that one for around $150 less, and I bought them. ;) They just aren't USA Peaveys. :cool:

It is kind of a no win situation. Your offer is reasonable, but the seller's idea of selling price is not. Of course if you consider what the bass is really worth, then the seller's price is reasonable and your offer is not, but that is not reality -- USA Peaveys sell for much less than they are worth.

TommyKnocker: The old analog wireless systems may have degraded the signal some. But, I don't think I've heard ANYbody claim that they can hear any signal degradation from the new digital Line6 Relay series. I definitely cannot hear any from my Relay G30.

mark beem: Man! Nice TL6. I SO would like to try one of those out. Especially if I could A/B it against my Cirrus 6 (w/Mill pre).
