Any bass case that will fit a P or a J will work with that bass. The case original to that bass is the Peavey molded plastic case. They come up on ebay all the time. A nice example will run around $60 shipped. Or you could go with one of the polyfoam lightweight hard cases, which will run you $20 more.

Beware when using a case like the one pictured. I have one just like it for my natural Fury. I made the rather large mistake of putting my black Foundation in my Fury case it and was dismayed to find that the foam melted into the finish, making the back of the bass feel like the surface of a cantelope. It took quite a bit of wet sanding to get out. The Foundation cases that look like that were fabric-lined AFAIK.

The finish is thick enough that you could polish it back up before selling it and nobody would ever be the wiser.

The case shown is the exact kind of case that came with all Peavey basses from the mid-late 80's. The "fur-lined" cases appeared in the late 70's/early 80's. The foam on those old cases definitely degraded over the years. It's impossible to find an intact foam-pad example, as the foam had degraded into dust. But if you can get one of the cases with missing foam cheap, a hot glue gun and a bit of foam will get you an ok case.

If that's the case (npi), then I'm unsure why the case for my '84 Fury destroyed the finish on my '87 Foundation. Everything was all-original on both. If my facts about the cases are incorrect, my experience with them isn't. People should be careful.

Maybe a more contemporary case would serve me better.

Most of the foam-lined cases look like this now:

You can see the hot melt still remains on the top and bottom of the case, but most of the foam is gone. Most - not all. You can still see chunks of crappy foam stuck on the body area of the case.




Getting a contemporary case would be a much better idea.

^^ That black foam crap will actually melt into a stubborn, tarry mess when it gets hot enough. Happened to me, major clean up job. After that debacle, I made a body template to re-line my other ones.

There is also a rectangular Peavey case from the mid 80's with the brown felt lining. My '84 Fury came in one.

Agreed that getting a different case would probably be preferable. If nothing else, replacing the foam in any kind of old case like that would be wise. Testing the matierial to make sure there's no reaction would also be a good idea.

My Fury case looked exactly like the one in the picture before I put the Foundation in it. I'll probably re-line it with somehting from the fabric store one of these days.
