I have recently installed some Bill Lawrence P46 pups. I like them, but not as much as the original pups that died out on me.

Asking/posting here in hopes other foundation bass owners will tell me how their tone control acts.
Tone pot turned to about 1/4 turn cuts volume 70-80%.
Normal or bad cap? Quick look and saw a square green cap soldered to pot. Found a fiber washer lying in cavity, so someone been in there before. Doing what, I don't know.
First day with this bass, don't know how it was acting previously.

Love the old pointy Peavey emblem. Back in '89 I stripped the paint off my 1st car (rusty '76 Monte Carlo), and when I primered it up, I taped off and sprayed that pointy "Peavey" on both rear quarters, lol. Needless to say, I was pretty proud of my old Foundation and Basic 60 amp at the time.
Reading that makes me want to do it to my car today. It'd look funny on a late 90's BMW, though.
I just acquired a Forum Plus P/J (it's my second Peavey as I have a US Millennium 5)
Does anyone know what gauge strings shipped with these. They appear lighter then the 110 - 105 I usually use on my other basses. I'm thinking 100 to 95 as the neck is so narrow.
I really like the bass so far (though it does need a setup) It's a cool metallic forest green and in great shape.
Any string recommendations would be appreciated.

I've never seen one of those before. I like it. Looks like a Fender Blackface.

I had a friend who had a Dyna Bass amp in the early 70s. His amp had a single 18 folded horn cabinet like the Acoustics and others popular at the time. The amp was killer! I also remember seeing one on a Peavey 3x15 cabinet in a store about that same time. That one is a beauty and a great find!
The tone pot shouldn't have much effect on volume at all. My thought would be a short in the wiring. I would look up the schematics for a jazz bass as they are basically wired the same. I am also not fond of the stock peavey caps. While they shouldn't be effecting your volume, they are also low enough rated that they don't allow much treble roll-off. I would go ahead and replace it with a .047 or a .05 (or a .082 if you really like to roll off treble)while rewiring the foundation. When you're done you will have a true Jazz-beater.
I thought I'd share my steal of a deal I got today. Sam Ash had this Beauty for $149.00 with HSC. It was a little dirty and sticky from smoke. But now she is a clean happy and well adjusted part of my Peavey family.

I just picked this up the other day. Forum Plus. It has active p/u's and no pre. The pots are a little noisy and I am not really impressed with the sound of the pick ups. I am wondering if a problem with the pot may cause a problem with the pick up.
Any way I am considering the EMG wooten Pax set.

Good news! After re-soldering everything, both pups and all controls are functioning properly in my TL-6!
Thanks to everyone for your help and suggestions. The Mrs will be glad to get the dining room table cleared lol.
