At this point, all I really want to round out my Peavey collection is an Axcellerator. I have a slant fury, a SF foundation, a VFL foundation, and an active single soapbar Forum. Ordered a Axcellerator off GC used a couple weeks ago, and it was the biggest let down ever. Totally treated like crap, and while it probably wasn't too far gone to be fixed, I have neither the capital nor the know-how to do so. I've got my eyes peeled. If any of you see one worth checking out please let me know!
I'm after a T 45 myself to round things out. 2 T 40s, a T 20, Patriot, B-Ninety and 2 Foundation VFLs 4 & 5 and G bass.

Maybe if it was a steal, but I'm not after it as much as I am an Axcellerator. I've never played one, but it's not too high on my priority list. I will say though, I never expected to like my Forum as much as I do, and consider it one of my best blind purchases. So maybe someday one will cross my path!
So, thinking I'd just unscrew the pups and raise them, I discovered the pickup covers are not attached to the pickups themselves. Meaning, when I raised the pickup the only thing rising was the cover, the pole pieces stayed where they were. My guess is I'm going to have to de-string this, pull the pups out completely and then figure out a way to reattach the bobbin/pole pieces to the cover and reinstall. Anyone have any thoughts on how best to go about this? On the up side, with some repeated twiddling, the bass pot is no longer stiff. Not as free as the treble, but it's much better. Still have to get the Deoxit...
Stuff some foam under the pickups. Old school mousepads are great, or so I'm told. I use some craft foam from Micheal's Crafts.
Bought mine for $100. Love that thing.

Gigged the Forum last night and it has a solid big sound,loads of boost on the 18v active circuit.It manages to go big bottom without going muddy.Both have very different necks,Foundation has the skinny jazz neck while the Forum 95 has a p-bass/musicman neck.They have great necks to play almost like the Aria Pro japanese models,a joy to play.
The foundation is an 84 whilst the Forum 95 is a 95 so for 20 and 30 year old basses,all original that are getting gigged every week 2/3 times they have stood the test of time and will do the same again albeit getting a bit more mojo,d.
Very underated basses and no way inferior to the competition and in some ways superior but overall well worth the insane low prices which allow you to spend more on good amplification and allow these basses to sing.
Back on Sept 23rd I posted a picture of my silver flake Axcelerator 5 that I had just received. Due to circumstances which would fill up a page or two with whiny-ness, I haven't gotten to play it in anger until practice tonight. I ran the Axcelerator 5 with Fat Beams, straight into a GK 700RB-II, then into my guitarist's GK 2x10 (I think its an RBH series).
This my friends was pretty much my holy grail of tone. Even better than the current Cirrus I have (though it has Chromes, so its a different sound). Have you seen the movie "Kung Fu Hustle"? My tone tonight was the Buddhist Palm of tone. It was deep and throaty, but defined. It had growl, but softened up nicely when I backed off. It had cojones out the wazoo (until tonight I would have thought that's anatomically impossible!). If anything needs improving, I realized I need to raise the treble side of the pickups a bit to get a bit better balance. My tone could do no wrong. It fit into our mix perfectly (though we're a 3 piece so theres plenty of room in the mix).
Honestly it worked for me for everything from old R&B to country to classic rock to modern rock radio hits. It's also perfectly comfortable to me. I love the neck. I think I like it better than my Cirrus, and that's saying something.
Now I've got to get another one!

Fantastic Geoff! We should all try and record bits that we're playing with our Axcelerators, I'm curious to hear the different tones everyone is using.
Shoot, if there's enough of us, we'll have to start our own club!
