My green haloflake G-Bass has the black neck as well.
I know it is painted under the clear coat but the clear coat is so thick that the neck looks very different (expensive looking) from two other basses I have that have black painted neck backs.
Maybe it's the carbon fiber and the way it takes paint.

The holoflake green G Bass has landed. Strung it BEAD, made a few set up tweaks and it's a keeper. Doesn't have the sweet looking weave on the neck since I couldn't be that lucky twice but has good looking black paint that feels slick. Overall shine about a mile deep. One thing that's curious...it was set up from the factory for 9 volts. The Pearl G Bass is set up for 18. Can't hear any difference through headphones.

I know we saw pics from the seller already, but that is not stopping you from posting some more...give us some bass porn man!!!

How'd you mean "set up from factory for 9v" ?

One 9V battery clip only. Looks like factory solder joints or changed by a tech I'd really like to meet and a neatly made foam pad in the battery recess. Recess is big enough for two without the pad. May change it to 18V.

I know we saw pics from the seller already, but that is not stopping you from posting some more...give us some bass porn man!!!

I'm so far behind on pics now it'd take a week's work to clean them up and take pics!

Overall there were 3 types... (see through.... black gel coat and Modulus)... Bquad is most definately a modulus. I've owned all of them - convinced they're all equal quality (in different ways)

9v vs 18v
there was a "wave" of time that folks were changing to 9v. Sadly... few figured out that it didn't require an instrument resolder to achive the 18-9 change.

Quiz Quesion... anyone know how to do it without touching the instrument preamp?

Take a 9V clip and solder the two wires together, insulate the connection and use it to short one of the two in the instrument.

Bonus round, buy a 9v battery clip and short the two wires, creating a zero mod jumper. Plug said jumper into one of the two 9V battery clips on the bass.

Total cost with Behringer Ultrabass combo,stand,strap and cables £28 !!! Since a large Domino pizza and 2 sides costs £23 here I'm betting the other £5 went on 4 brownies and a coke (£4.79)

So the point of this is... if you have "collector basses" you can convert to a 9v (from 18) without having to permanently change the bass. There were tons of bass hackery going on a few years back.

I've also done it by only using the top of a disassembled 9v battery.

NOTE - some preamps require 18v... results may vary by bass.... do at your own risk... Some will say that headroom gets altered.

There was a time I had a HHHHHUUUUUGGGGEEE collection... redoing batteries was a $120 per year expense.

It's good for basses we barely use/need...

On most basses, I can't hear the difference.

Peavey G Bass with Case | eBay

I bought this G Bass. It was up for the same price recently...almost bought it but let it go by. The seller relisted it and I decided to go for it. The Modulus neck won me over.

My other Peavey fretted 4's (Axcelerator and Forum) will be up for sale when the G bass arrives.

I'll offer them here first.

G basses don't have a modulus neck. Those necks were made by a gun stock company.

Bell & Carlson. It's my understanding that Peavey made some too. The ones where the weave doesn't look so great.

I think that's why they went to the black gelcoat. The straightness of the weave is purely cosmetic, and it's a bitch to get that stuff to lay just right. I think that's a big part of modulus' TLK outer layer. Just throw random pieces in the mold for an interesting look, then you can do the layup for strength without much concern for aesthetics.
