That looks like a factory defect; kinda surprised it's still out in the wild after all this time. You might be better off with a replacement neck rather than trying to correct a mistake.

I use the Peavey Cirrus strings on my Millys - inexpensive, long lasting, and they sound GREAT.
Interesting, never tried XL strings on a 34" scale bass. Do you have issues with the XL strings and wrapping the "thick" part of the strings around the posts?
Millennium basses are 35" scale.
I do love the 43-107 set, and have them on my Scheff right now. Not sure if I have any on my Peaveys yet.DR's are my preference also,but Pro steels are pretty sweet too.
