SVTs have a way of doing that to you, especially paired up with a good 8x10 cabinet. A good cabinet will sound good regardless, but I'm one of those guys that feels a tube amp shines it brightest when you've got it on a nice 2x15s or 8x10s cabinet. A good Ampeg tube head on one of those is just brutal.
Oh, the pain of GAS. I know it well.
I have made that mistake in the past and every time sit there for a while fantasizing over how I could manage to get the head on the cab, much less carry it into a club.
Used a V4B with the 8X10 in the 70s.
IMHO, a Fender P played through either an SVT or a V4B + 8x10 is how God and Leo intended electric bass to sound.

Just do it the way I do it. Grab a guitar player or drummer by the ear and tell them to help. That way , at least they'll be good for SOMETHING.
Re the Palmer, I would love to try something like that but I've never seen anything that can handle the power of an SVT.
