Bassist Bruce Thomas’ work was crucial. The third, Armed Forces, kept it up, but then he got sidetracked a bit, although every album after that has its moments. But that doesn’t detract from the fact that he was one of the most brilliant songwriters to emerge in the late 70’s. Oddly enough, one of his better known songs, “What’s So Funny About Peace, Love, And Understanding”, was written by his early producer, Nick Lowe.
