hey brad,

have an idea of how big?

if i may, it'd be a good idea to keep the width of the box close to the width of most bass cabs and rack setups, which i think is about 19-20". would just look cleaner w/ the rest of our stuff. :p :D

Dang... those are GEORGEOUS!!!!

One other idea.....
The handle looks sturdy.... but what about putting two handles on it.. one on each side going from back to front, instead of one in the middle going from side to side.

Thanks for the kind words. :) The top one is solid purpleheart with ebony trim and a flame maple V. The bottom one is the same configuration except with walnut. Glad you liked it! :)

To be honest, the single handle seems to work nicely and keeps the amp balanced when carrying. I'm curious. why do you suggest two handles?

My words weren't nearly as nice as how great those amps look!!

As for the handles.. I'm lazy... I'd like to be able to use both hands to pick it up, and place it on top of my cab(s). My Trace V6 only has one.... it's really not that big of deal... but sometimes when I'm wiped out after a show.. it'd be nice to use both hands and get more leverage by lifting from both sides.

Not only what Biker said, but also I am very unlikely to carry a tube amp (rather heavy if it's 300 watts) with one hand and something else in another hand, because I want to be extremely careful with it. So if it's the only thing I'm carrying, the side straps would be the way to go. Although frankly, I'd probably have it in a rack.

Just to put in my $.02, I think it would be awesome to make it able to fit into a rack and include rack ears or something for those who have large racks as an option. I think one tone which you may want to look at being able to produce is a Trace tube tone. Ashdown seems to get it pretty well for the SS/hybrid stuff, but nobody makes a real Trace esque tube amp any more.

Here is the issue. If I go to 300W like many of you are asking for, I will have to use a larger chassis and that will keep me from ever being able to rack mount it.

If I go with 200W, I can still rack mount it. Is 300W really that necessary?

I would be fine with 200 loud watts, but some may not be. Are you sure that you cannot fit 6 large tubes into a deep and maybe 4 or 5 space rack area? I wouldn't actually use a rack for it, but there are those who probabally would want to. I know that my Mesa 400+ can, but that is also 12 smaller tubes so I'm not sure about the 6550/KT-88s...

IMO, and with over 30 years experience of playing bass professionally in a wide variety of settings, I can assure that the difference between 200 and 300 watts is the difference between my buying it or not (assuming it has killer tone).

Regarding the handle setup and the rack thing: If you have a $3000 amp head, I would hope that you'd invest the $150 or whatever for a hard case for it before taking it out to a gig.

That said, half the reason I'd want this rackmountable is to mount it in a nice beerproof rack and not have to get a custom case for it. :)

Well... here's the thing... we all want great tone... but we want it in different packages.. Some really want it rack mounted.. I could care less if it's rackable or not. If the amp is what I want it to be, I will certainly spring some extra cash for an plush cozy road case for it. Just like I did for my V6!!

Oh.. and another vote for the Trace tone!!

The public has spoken. 300W it is. I'll go with the larger chassis and do away with the rack mount feature. Sure I can always create a separate chassis for the rack mount version if it ever comes up, but at the moment, the making a head cabinet chassis that I can rack mount is just not an option.

Also, I'll being doing the Tube Driven and Tube Recovered FX loop. By doing it this way, you can use Pedals (-20dB) and Rack Mount FX (0dB). You can also select between series or parallel operation when using the FX loop.

There will be a send and return level adjust for use with ALL external processors and pedals.

Sound cool? ;)

sounds great, brad!

and hate to keep harpin' on ya, please keep in mind, most bass cabs are 20-23" wide. i've seen a few so called boutique heads that looked pretty fugly hangin' over the sides of their ampeg 8x10's. :rollno:

but other than that, HOO DADDY, cant wait to hear it!

and to the TB community, many thx for makin' Brad feel at home, and helpin' him out with his little project. without hestation, i recommend Brad headin' over here, and am only glad you GAS'ed freaks came thru and gave him 119 posts worth of opinions and info. :p :bassist:
