Have you any idea how insulting that comment is? What do you base your assessment on? Because the folks on this thread happen to appreciate rock more than blues, you have to, for spite only, attempt to insult every rock bassist by making an astoundingly stupid remark of which you can't even, in any universe, create a curve in which to assess the playing abilities of rock bassists in regards to rhythm and blues bassists. Different styles all together. As such, there is no way to compare and again, as such, neither is a better or worse player.

Fixed the song title in this post. I am in complete agreement about Rob Stoner's playing on it. I heard that song on AM radio over and over in 1971, when it spent four weeks at number 1, and it remained a favorite of mine to this day. That bass recording is one of the original influences that led to me becoming a bassist. Try playing it sometime..

Kathy Valentine from The Go Gos for two reasons (1) I love her simple yet melodic and highly effective bassline approach. To me, simple 'sing songy' basslines are always the best ones and (2) Im not a P-bass guy and have avoided picks most of my life but she has one of my favorite P-bass tones, if not my favorite

Garry Tallent - Bruce Springsteen. I disliked Bruce when I was young, but a few years ago I had to learn a few of his hits. These parts are also very melodic, and the entire band was made up of great musicians.

Michael Anthony - Van Halen. This has been discussed here before. His work after leaving the band shows he is capable of a lot more than pounding roots.
