I've been playing bass for 35 years and never been into Fender either, but I would never start a thread announcing that fact. I don't see the point of cropping on other's good times.

Fender does not suck, but it not necessarily "the best" and by value? They are often overpriced compared to compettitors of equivalent "quality" .
They are just cnc wood and wire like everything else's, based on a formula released in the 50's. Hey it works for coca cola too retreading the same product for decades with little change.
Works for marketing, that they were first in.
Kinda like Kleenex is "Facial Tissue"
Fender is what fender is.
To be honest: I've never been impressed with Fender, and I worked at G&L with Leo.
G&ls are light years more refined than Fender stuff.

So it's not just me. You guys really are rude and defensive as hell about your fenders apparently. I agree with OP. Fenders are not exactly set up well from the factory. Hell Scott Devine got a custom shop and said it played like dog dooky. That's a brand new bass cost several thousand. Ibanez isnt set up great either for that matter though. Fender tend to go a bit too high (which does make some sense because they are shipped all over the world) and Ibanez a bit low ( most of them buzz in store).
Some of you guys really come off as elitist jerks when it comes to new members. Can life really be so bad for you that you have nothing better to do than get off on trying to make some stranger feel inferior?

FWIW, I started out on Fenders (actually, I started out on junk, but moved to a Fender when I could finally afford one). The good news is that if a Fender design (including all three phases of Leo's career) resonates with you, there are many "better" Fender makers out there. For me, Lakland was the best fit.
