My first experience with asymmetrical necks was a Tobias 5-string about 25 years ago. I ended up selling the bass but I liked the asymmetrical neck enough to have it incorporated into a 5-er I had custom built shortly afterwards. I still have that bass (it's my #1) and the asymmetrical neck still feels great to me. Mine is very wide and fairly flat but thickest under the E string.

He has a video on his Instagram that kinda "sells" it.

I'm not sure I'd go for it but I respect him trying something new.

Basically the idea is to allow you to do off-fretboard pull-offs from each string. But I'm not sure how often that'd come into play.

Thread 'Nashguitars Nautilus Neck'

When I watched Norman's Rare Guitars' latest Guitar of the Day video that features a Nashguitars JB63, I noticed a hang tag with a recursive spiral pattern.

On their website, Nashguitars prominently feature what they call the Nautilus Neck, a neck with a progressively flattening radius (1/18th per fret). I like the idea, especially the promise of allowing a lower action with a straighter neck (less relief needed).

Is this a brand new thing, or have I just not heard of it before?

I'm sure I'm too late to the "asymmetrical neck" party, so I'll mention this for future readers;

I have a friend who plays bass in an '80s-hard-rock/metal band. Despite her owning a considerable collection, including a Fender Mod Shop P-Bass, she always falls back on her Fender American Deluxe Dimension IV HH. She says the back of the asymmetrical neck really helps her anchor her fretting hand's thumb.
