Unprofessional

Yes, yes there is... Something from the Cannabaceae family might do the trick. But only in CO and CA

It makes me a little spastic with the patch cords if I'm having technical problems. Otherwise it's a net gain (or at least not a significant loss). Unfortunately I don't live in one of those states, and my job situation makes it impossible.

I don't mean this as a personal attack on anyone, but if you need to impair yourself in order to do a job, you should probably find a different job. I'll never understand why anyone would purposefully participate in an activity where they have to "take the edge off" to get through it. Why not find something else to do with your time that doesn't require mental impairment in order to enjoy yourself?

I agree completely. I just don't understand it either.

Nobody in my band drinks or takes/does any substance before we hit the stage. We just put our work hats on and go to work.

Maybe after the performance one of us will have a drink. Maybe. At that point though, we've already played the show.

When I was in my late teens/early 20s I went through a stage of drinking way too much. I realised pretty early on that when I'm drunk I'm a bad musician, and not even a good person. Fortunately I decided the bass and my friends were more important than the beer.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say you have tremors. There are a number of things that might cause that other than being anxious. If you haven't seen a doctor about it, it might pay to do so. In the mean time, maybe try some breathing techniques and internal dialogue scripts that can take you to a calm place without the need for chemical intervention.

Two reasons I don't drink a drop at gigs:
1) I want to perform my best, with full concentration
2) On my way home, if I get pulled over by a cop I want to be able to tell him with all honestly that I have not had any alcohol

So far, so good.

Happened to me 20 odd years ago... was a hot summer day, we were playing a wedding and I went in the van with the drummer. We set up in the Marquee then I went to the bar to get a glass of red wine.... long story short I think I drank about 3 bottles of wine that afternoon / night and after what I thought was our last set I was sitting at one of the tables and had slumped over and gone to sleep.... I just remember the singer / guitarist slapping me on the cheek saying "Nick, Nick - get up... we're doing another set"
I was clearly in no physical state to stand up so drummer handed me my bass and someone got a bar stool for me and we played another set....

I rember the groom come up to us afterwards and say we were one of the best bands he'd listened to and we were great

that was the first and only trime I've played a gig drunk!

To the OP, Do/can you usually drink more? Was this a surprise?
I'm not a big drinker. My norm is 2-3 beers at practice, three times a week. I almost never drink at home. It really hit me with no warning. Water under the bridge I guess.

I would like to thank most of you for being supportive. I do learn from mistakes usually.

And to those who " can't understand", you're correct.
