Unravelling Flatwound String

Different String Constitution...

I think the Ibanez night require the longer fender bass VI version. Really will need to measure I don't remember the specific model.

If you can, hold the removed String up to the new to make sure the full Winding on the lowest String won't wrap around the post.
N̶o̶,̶ the Ibanez SRC6 c̶o̶u̶l̶d̶n̶'̶t̶ might take Bass VI strings, but the larger wound part of the low E string would reach and be wound on the string tuning post.

The measurements are:
t̶h̶e̶ ̶f̶a̶c̶t̶o̶r̶y̶ ̶l̶o̶w̶ ̶E̶ ̶s̶t̶r̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶h̶a̶s̶ ̶w̶i̶n̶d̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶l̶e̶n̶g̶t̶h̶ ̶(̶i̶n̶c̶l̶u̶d̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶b̶a̶l̶l̶ ̶e̶n̶d̶)̶ ̶a̶b̶o̶u̶t̶ ̶3̶4̶.̶2̶"̶,̶
distance from the ball end until just pass the nut is 32.5",
distance from the ball end until just before the tuning post is 34.25".

I don't know what brand the factory strings are. The tag tied on the headstock when I first unboxed my SRC6 says Elixir. But it appeared that there are no such kind of strings when I checked Elixir's website. The gauges mentioned on Ibanez site are .024/.034/.044/.056/.072/.084 which appears to be the same as D'Addario EXL156 Bass VI string set. But when I took off mine, the ball ends (small standard guitar ball end size, not bass ball end size) aren't colored, so I concluded that they might not be D'Addarios.

The reason I ordered the Hellcat VI string set from you, is because on an older post you mentioned that it has 32.75" winding length. So, this should fit. On the same post you also mentioned Fender Bass VI has 36" winding length, so this would be too long for the SRC6.

But the issue that got me worried is the unraveling thing discussed in this thread... since Hellcat Bass VI doesn't have string thru body construction, but the SRC6 has. So, I worried that La Bella Flatwound for Hellcat Bass VI strings that I had ordered from you were not constructed to withstand this thru body stringing.

report...

seems that La Bella Hellcat Flatwound HC-6 that I got from @SLaPiNFuNK work with Ibanez SRC6 thru body stringing.

Just strung the low E string only:

And the winding length is also perfect:

Just curious why you strung (strang, stringed...) through body? Are you convinced that you get some benefit? I've played bass since 1965 and have never heard a cogent argument that through-body offers a real benefit.
Depends on the model of the bass. I have a 1995 American Standard and it is "ONLY" through body. No bridge through design, that came later.

Hi folks!

Today my set of La Bella 760FL's came in the mail, and I have been super excited to try these. However, to my dismay, as I began turning the tuning peg, the E string became unravelled at the bridge. There was definitely no saving it.

I am very disappointed, especially with how expensive these were (for a college kid anyway), and for how excited I was to get my hands on them. I sent La Bella an email, and hopefully I hear back soon, considering I have a gig this weekend and don't really want to buy a whole new set. I really don't want to waste the other three strings in the set either, although now I am slightly paranoid. I followed proper stringing procedures/technique.

I really don't want to knock La Bella either. I've heard nothing but good things about them and genuinely want to try their product. Hopefully this will just be a one-time thing

Is this a common occurrence with flatwounds though?

Thanks!
The only one I’ve had unwound at the bridge were strings I broke playing them…and that was over 50 years ago. Hopefully you can’t get them to overnight you a replacement . Otherwise I wouldn’t count on the USPS to get it to you in 5 days in time for your gig.
