Happy to hear that. You've been just lucky. The "problem" exists and the number of people talking about this should tell you something.
I play the upright -- Thomasktik Spirocores fray if you are not careful and I have been taught by my teacher 32 years ago how to avoid silk fray. If I can avoid Spirocores silk fray on the upright tuner, it's a no brainer on the electric bass, hence "Never a problem for me". I also live in New Mexico an inherently dusty place. Silk powder is the least of my worries, I would worry about dried rosin first from bowing on the upright.
