Unsung Bass Heroes

Dennis Dunaway is one of my favorite rock bassists, I always love to see him get his props.
Sweet! Finally some people that know who I'm talking about! The bass lines for "Gutter Cats" and "Generation Landslide" are some of my favorites of all time. Forgot to mention "Muscle of Love."
Oh, and great to see Mark Sandmans name come up some where. He was the bassist for Morphine. He played the "slide bass."
i forgot to mention - for the punk rock inclined there's the old bass player from frenzal rhomb - lex!

Scott Tunes. I heard/read that he's some kind of a strange character but definitely a fantastic bass player.

Bruce Thomas is probably one of the most deserving of this title of Unsung bass hero. He has such a great drive and groove with Elvis Costello.
Someone also mentioned Leon Wilkinson and he is also very underrated. Listen to the groove and pulse that he creates .
I've emailed Scott (it's Thunes, by the way, and pronounced "TOO-nes") a couple times, and he seemed like a really nice guy. He's not tolerant of stupidity, though, and he's not afraid to say what's on his mind. I can see how that might turn some people off.

For me, it's a toss-up between O'Hearn and Barrow.
Steve Lawson. An amazing solo-bassist looper, and a moderator on the solo bass forum right here on talkbass. Has an amazing sense of melody and sound in general, but he is unfortunately not talked about much.
oustside the bass player world john paul jones get ZERO reconition, you go up to someone in the street and ask if they know john paul jones, they will go "who?" jpj is only known to bass players.
really? because most led zeppelin fans (even the non musicians) think that hes the greatest bass player in the world.
but thats just in my experience
