Unusual Rock Trivia?

After The Runaways broke up in 1979, Joan Jett went to England pursuing a solo career. She recorded three songs there with The Sex Pistols' Paul Cook and Steve Jones, one of which was an early version of The Arrows' 1975 song "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" which she heard while in England and decided to cover it. When The Blackhearts were formed, she covered it with that band for a big hit.



Her business partner/producer/keyboardist/songwriter, Kenny Laguna, who she formed The Blackhearts and Blackhearts Record with, has worked with numerous acts either in the studio or touring including songs by Tony Orlando, The Ohio Express, The Lemon Pipers, Tommy James & The Shondells, 1910 Fruitgum Company, Crazy Elephant, Jay and the Americans, Darlene Love, The Righteous Brothers, and many more. He played or sang on more than 50 Billboard U.S. Top 40 hits just by 1972.

Herman's Hermits band's name came from a resemblance, noted by a publican in Manchester, England, between Peter Noone and Sherman in the "Peabody's Improbable History" segments of the Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon show. Sherman was shortened to Herman, and then became Herman and his Hermits, which was soon shortened to Herman's Hermits.

Even though Peter Criss is credited with playing and pictured on the Kiss Dynasty and Unmasked albums, he only played and sang on one song, "Dirty Livin'", on Dynasty and did not play at all on Unmasked. Anton Fig played drums on all the other songs on Dynasty and played on all the songs on Unmasked. Anton Fig has also played drums on Ace Frehley's solo project albums.

If it hasn’t been mentioned before, Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner handled a lot of the guitar parts on the Bob Ezrin-produced Kiss titles. They were his go-to six string tag team, together or separately, for many of his productions, Alice Cooper, Lou Reed, and Peter Gabriel in particular.

The band Slaughter was formed in Las Vegas, Nevada, in late 1988, out of the ashes of lead vocalist Mark Slaughter and bassist Dana Strum's previous band, Vinnie Vincent Invasion. Vinnie Vincent Invasion's record company, Chrysalis Records, took the $4 million contract away from Vinnie Vincent for over exceeding his credit line with the label, and transferred the contract to former members Slaughter and Strum. By 1989, Slaughter and Strum completed the lineup by recruiting lead guitarist Tim Kelly and drummer Blas Elias.

Van Halen & Gene Simmons

According to a January 4, 1977, Invalid Link Removed article by Robert Hilburn,Invalid Link Removed entitled "HOMEGROWN PUNK," Invalid Link Removed saw Van Halen at the Gazzarri club in the summer of 1976, so he took Gene Simmons of Kiss to see Van Halen. Simmons then produced a Van Halen demo tape with recording beginning at the Village Recorder studios in Los Angeles and finished with overdubs at the Electric Lady Studios in New York.[17]Simmons wanted to change the band's name to "Daddy Longlegs," but the band stuck with Van Halen. Simmons then opted out of further involvement after he took the demo to Kiss management and was told that "they had no chance of making it" and that they wouldn't take them.[22]

Although it's not true, it makes me laugh every time I think about it -- Buck Owens was buried in a Dracula costume.

Hahahaha... yup, a few years ago, someone added that to Owens' Wikipedia page... and it stayed up there for NINE MONTHS before someone with his team took it down.

Freakin' hysterical.

...and unless you have caught his solo concerts, you wouldn't know that he is also a decent harpist. He plays a Lyon & Healy Silhouette (an electric harp).

And a little more on this, if it wasn't mentioned already.

On the Ezrin produced KISS LP Destroyer, the official release included the song Sweet Pain, with a guitar solo played by Dick Wagner. As reported by Ezrin and several band members, Ace Frehley blew off some studio time to play cards or some such thing. Ezrin brought in Wagner to rework Frehley's work and Ace was never told his solo had been replaced. He first heard the change after the release of the album.

And Phil Collins' first recording session was for George Harrison's All Things Must Pass album. He played percussion on several songs - he doesn't remember which ones - and was not credited.

Also not credited on the same album, Peter Frampton overdubbed acoustic guitar onto many of the tracks.
