Many of the lyrics on the first three albums by the Doors revolve around Jim's ex-girlfriend Mary. They were quite serious. She even followed him out to L.A. When he joined the Doors in 1965, they soon split up.

When the TV show Friends was being put together, producers wanted to have R.E.M.'s Shiny Happy People as the theme song...On approaching RE.M. they were told that the band actually hates the song and didn't want to give it any more attention. Turning down millions of dollars a year in rerun royalties for the rest of their lives.

They had stopped playing the song live and even left it off a greatest hits album....It was created as a joke song but it blew up beyond any expectations.

Like Frank Zappa's Valley girl with his daughter was his most lucrative hit.
