Upcoming NBD - T40

Time for a 12 step program...I couldn't pass it up - it was built the same year I was born. I just ordered this online - I played a T20 at a pawn shop several years ago and it has haunted me ever since...

I recently got an OLP MM2 which has been fun to modify and play games with, but I think this T40 may fill the gap I needed for a longterm serious instrument.

I'll have to write out a thorough review when this arrives, and will probably spend some hours exploring the tones you can get experimenting with the convoluted controls.

Congrats! It looks like you got an early slab body with the "toaster" pickups...is it a '78 or a '79? I have one just like it, same natural finish with an "8M" prefix serial number (first year, 1978).

They are lovely beasts, and you will find yourself spending HOURS switching between the humbucker and single coil settings for each pickup, accessible through the tone controls looking for your personal "sweet spot". There are literally hours of Youtube clips showing the versatility of this very unique instrument!

Also take advantage of all the threads and clubs available here at TB devoted to the T40, vintage Peaveys and the like. That ought to keep you busy until the real thing gets delivered!

I'm really excited about it - and yes, I believe it is a 1979, but I'm gonna verify the serial when I receive it.

I don't care about weight because I'm sitting down 80% of the time when I'm playing to start with, and I'm not worried about the weight when I stand to play, either.

I've seen some awesome videos on YouTube about the versatility and I'm excited to start turning knobs.

The controls are a little strange to get used to, but lots of interesting sounds to be found, even more with some minor mods (from what I read, haven't tried yet). Very solid instruments for the price, still some out there, not quite the deals they once were, but even so, nice, and congrats!

I just got a '78 "8M" myself - these are seriously nice basses, and you'll get the hang of the controls in no time. Congrats on the pretty new toy!

That is neat, I'll have to grab a T-40 and sit down with it - but the sounds I love the most in my T-40s are the ones that aren't trying to be anything else.

My recent deal on a '79 fell through. Somebody got there before I did as I was travelling last week. Kind of bummed but the search will continue and success will be found!

They used to be super cheap - like 200 - 300, but now they range quite a bit based on condition and if they still have the original hard case - I think it is roughly like 400 - 650. Still a good deal, in my opinion.

I paid in the $350-$450 range for my 3, all including OHSC. But that was close to 15 years back now.
