Upcoming NBD - T40

They used to be super cheap - like 200 - 300, but now they range quite a bit based on condition and if they still have the original hard case - I think it is roughly like 400 - 650. Still a good deal, in my opinion.

I paid $325 for the one I got in fair condition last week. It's a little more than what an average T-40 should go for in the same condition, but it was a rather rare early '78 with the original rectangular case. The one I got the week before was $800, but it's another (less) rare early '78 in an uncommon color for the year and in *extremely* good condition, and again with the original case (also in great condition).

I finally received mine yesterday and so far I've been very impressed. It is in near immaculate condition with the original case - I'm really enjoying it. Now I'm in the market for a super wide strap to mitigate the weight!

So, a few questions for those with more experience with the T-40 than me (basically everyone who has previously owned one):

The one I have is either made in 1979 or 1980, and it has the toaster pickups and not the blade pickups - how would you characterize the difference between the two types of pickups?

It appears to have low-wide frets (which I've never tried before and was a little disappointed about until I started playing - these frets are great!) Is that normal or do I possibly have a refret because I was told they have medium frets?

Does anybody have any suggestions of a good wide strap that is less then $50 USD, hopefully, to use with this monster?

I use a really nice Levy's 4" wide padded leather strap these days, but they're way over $50. But any 4" wide leather strap should do, with padding even better. I've tried some of the fancy neoprene ones as well, which are ok, but I always end up going back to leather.

On eBay right now:
Levy's MSS2 4 4 5" Dark Brown Padded Garment Leather Bass Guitar Strap | eBay - BIN $63.50 - these go for much more "list" (ordered direct), like, >$100.

If I were looking right now, I'd be tempted to try something like: Walker Williams Super Wide 4" Dark Brown Leather double Padded Bass Strap   | eBay - no experience with that brand, though.

That Levy strap looks really nice.

I'll have to think on that.
