So im thinking of getting a lakland 55-01, i have heard the stock electronics are not the greatest. does any company offer any drop in replacements? how much cash whould i be looking at throwing down to do this?

upgrading a lakland 55-01

there are many posts on this subject. a search of the archives will give you tons of opinions. My Lakie 55-01 has stock pickups but I had the factory install the US preamp to replace the original. This made it a quieter bass and provided, to me, more control over the mids. I think the stock bart pups sound good. I'd like to try it with MM style pups, but not enough to put $200-$300 into it. It's a good bass, and as you'll see in the archives a good foundation for mods.
