i have my first bass sitting around, its a squire p. i was thinking would it sound as good or better than a fender p if i upgraded the p/u's and put say a badass bridge on it? or would i be better off just getting a fender?

upgrading a squire p

When I decided to try out the Precision I bought a Squier II for a guinea pig.
I installed a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound and flat wound strings, and got an excellent sound.
If it hadn't had a weighty plywood body I might have kept it...but I traded it in on a Fender '50s P (which got the pickup after I put the original back in the Squier), which is now my #1 bass.
I'd say, if the the weight, neck and appearance suit you, have at it.

OK Ive seen this pic on here several times and I've been wondering....is that white out or excess glue around your pickguard?
id throw some bassline quarter pounds, leo quan badass 2 bridge....fender vintage tuner heads....and some ghs b52 boomer's
I'd upgrade only if you love the Squire P and you don't get carried away with more upgrades, or if you want to gain experience upgrading gear. You can easily spend more than what a standard Fender costs. I know, I've done it.
I upgraded my Squier Standard P (BAII bridge, Quarter Pounder P and J pickups, and D'Addario Chromes) to the point it cost about the same as a MIM Fender, and I have to say that I'm very pleased with the way it plays and sounds.
I'm currently upgrading my Squier Jazz V with the following mods.
Badass V bridge
Hipshot Ultralite tuners
Bone Nut
New Pots, Input Jack & Wiring
New Pickguard
Dyed the rosewood fretboard black
Some of the mods are done, but I'm still waiting on a few of the parts to show up. So far, the bass plays & sound awesome. It's been a blast souping it up & getting a great bass that does exactly what I want it to do.

that would be Tipp-Ex....a correction fluid...I have since got Fender amp knobs and took the Fender logo off my amp and put it in the place Steve Vai would have the handle on his guitars.
Oh,and i got rid of the glow-in-the-dark inlays...
