upgrading pups to ducan designed?

Pretty hot ...and accentuates the highs and kind of "scooped"

IMHO, a great example why not to upgrade.

"Duncan Designed" means they're based on duncan's design and built by someone else... often in korea, taiwan, etc etc etc. In other words, they're not 'real' duncans. Some like them, some don't.

Which can be said for about every pickup out there. Whether you should upgrade or not depends entirely on your personal taste which no one can predict. Especially on a web forum.

are duncan designed so disliked around here?

They shouldn't be, IMO. According to SD, the line was developed for OEM use in instruments that cost less than $800, while the regular Duncans are designed for instruments over $800. The Duncan Designed are made in Korea instead of the US, but are have the same design as their more expensive brothers.

I've had guitars with DD pups in them. The humbuckers are outstanding. I've also found the bass pups to be excellent quality as well.

I'd save for better pickups. You'll always be wondering "what if....?"

i dont want to buy new ones. i already have a SD quarter pounder in my VM squier, but i have this MIM p bass that sounds muddy and brightless, so i maybe if i put the duncan designed pup that came with the squier it would improve the sound
i`ll try if i learn how to solder

Go for it - I bought an MIA Fender P to replace my VM - and I think the VM sounds better, which is probably down to the pickup. The only reason they get bashed is because you can't buy em separately and only come with Squier basses. I bet most people dissing them have never even tried them!

I love the pickup that came in my Squier VM. I dont plan on changing it any time soon.

I agree. I have both the fretted and fretless VM's and i love them both. I am sure there are better pickups out there (isn't there always something better?), but I really like the sound I am getting with these ones.

Good Luck!

FWIW, I have a set in my Squier jazz, and dislike them. It's possible to own or have tried something and dislike it:rollno:
