Upgrading pups

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum, and fairly new to playing bass (about 4 years), so I thought i'd get some expert opinion about a question I have. My current bass is an Ibanez GSR200 (not a fantastic bass, but it was the best in my price range). I've been thinking of putting some new pickups on it to get a better sound out of it. What are the best pups I could get for it without breaking $200?

What type of sound are you aiming for?

I play mostly rock, alt. rock, worship and a little jazz music. I would especially like a better J pickup, because the one I currently have is definatly not great. The P pickup is a little better but I would like to upgrade it too

I have always liked active basses, so emg is my recomendation. some hate em, some love em. very few in the middle If you want to stay passive I like the dimarzios or the following combo (pretty popular)

Either way, you will get what you want without breaking the bank and with an ease of installation.

bestbassgear.com for all your bass needs! And +1 for the DiMarzio Model PJ. I have a set in both of my PJ basses.

EMG's are about the easiest to install with the quick connect system. If you can read and understand the simplest of wiring schematics, emg's should be a snap. otherwise, get your local tech to do it (should only charge you 1 hour of labor if that).
